We welcome yesterday’s Government announcement on reducing waiting times for treatment. Wait times are at an all-time high, however there are tools available that can help assist in prioritising your health as best you can in the meantime. During the pandemic, we established our free Virtual Village Hall platform, which allows people to enjoy a range of sessions from mobility and gentle exercise to arts, crafts and beginner dance classes within the home. Our online sessions are already making a difference to help people prioritise their health in a way that best suits them, with 68% of participants saying that it enables them to better manage their health condition(s). If you or someone you know could benefit from getting involved with our Virtual Village Hall, you can look at what’s on offer at: https://lnkd.in/erdwP4xV https://lnkd.in/eVWMBWQ3

🛑 Breaking: NHS rolls out 'stop-smoking' pill 🛑 Exciting news from the NHS! Today marks the rollout of an improved anti-smoking pill, Varenicline, in England. This new daily treatment is set to offer tens of thousands of smokers a powerful new option to quit, reducing cravings and blocking nicotine's effects. Coupled with behavioural support, this medication has already shown significant success, helping 1 in 4 people to quit smoking for at least six months. 💊 This initiative isn't just about helping individuals; it's a strategic move that aligns with the UK's broader public health goals. NHS Chief Executive Amanda Pritchard emphasised the role of Varenicline in moving the NHS towards preventive care. Imagine the impact: Over the next five years, it could prevent up to 9,500 smoking-related deaths. This is a major step in our fight against smoking-related illnesses, which currently cost the NHS around £2.5 billion annually. 🏥 As a professional deeply invested in the healthcare recruitment space, I find it inspiring to see such proactive measures being taken. It's not just about saving lives, but also about ensuring our healthcare systems are sustainable and effective. Let's use this as a reminder of the critical importance of innovation and support in creating a healthier UK. What do you think about this new initiative? Primary care isn't a fancy hospital wing - it's the friendly neighbourhood doctor's office in your healthcare toolbox! It focuses on keeping you healthy and preventing problems before they land you in the ER. Think of it as your first line of defence against minor illnesses, aches, and pains. Here's what primary care typically covers: Y-our go-to doc: Regular visits with your general practitioner (GP), who gets to know you and your health history to address most concerns. -Feeling better fast: Coverage for medications you need to kick short-term illnesses and manage some chronic conditions. -Keeping you smiling: Basic dental care, like check-ups and cleanings, might be included to prevent future problems. -Seeing clearly: Eye exams and sometimes even glasses or contacts to ensure you see the world perfectly. -Prevention is key: Some plans might offer screenings to catch potential health issues early on. Important to note: Primary care usually doesn't cover hospital stays for planned procedures or major illnesses. Join us on October 21st at noon: Advance care planning is crucial for single individuals as it ensures their healthcare preferences are respected even when they cannot communicate them. Without a spouse or immediate family to advocate on their behalf, having clear directives in place can prevent unwanted medical interventions and alleviate the burden on friends or distant relatives who might otherwise have to make difficult decisions. It also provides peace of mind, knowing that their wishes regarding treatments, end-of-life care, and other critical health decisions will be honored, reflecting their values and personal choices. https://lnkd.in/gK-G6V6Z
