I'm always fascinated by the quirky and unusual, so the IG Nobel Prizes are right up my alley. These awards celebrate research that's so surprising it makes you laugh and think. Last Thursday, the 34th annual prizes went to another batch of delightfully strange studies. One amusing detail of the ceremony is Miss Sweetie Poo, a little girl whose only task is to keep the speeches short and to the point. Winners have just one minute to give a speech 😲, and if they exceed that or become dull, she interrupts by loudly repeating, “Please stop. I’m bored.” It's both effective and hilarious. Now, imagine having a Miss Sweetie Poo at work! As we enter a new workweek, let's channel her spirit and keep our communication and work engaging - OK? Here are some strategies to avoid boring our own version of Miss Sweetie Poo: 1. Know your audience and tailor your message to grab and hold their attention. 2. Use storytelling techniques to prevent "death by PowerPoint." (Personally, I really like the SUCCESs model from Made to Stick by Chip & Dan Heath) 3. Incorporate ways to interact and engage others throughout your meeting/ presentation. 4. Start on time and end early. Here's a short clip of Miss Sweetie Poo in action https://lnkd.in/d8Hjgh5K

Speaking Confidence Coach | 300+ trained in high-stakes settings through public speaking, negotiation & NLP coaching techniques | Turn your inside voice into outside influence
I am doing a thing! Thankful to Feihong Chen (CaFei.Space) for inviting me along to her brainchild – a series of sessions centred on an all-rounded support system for life. LOL is a series of sessions aimed at making this “figuring life out” thing a tad easier. These open sessions focus on three aspects: (1) “𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤”: skills or topics for the unexamined life, (2) “𝐎𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞”: discussing the things that the universe seem to hint at us about, and (3) “𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬”: navigating crossroads and turning points. Public speaking and stage fear has always been that one aspect that rises in significance by surprise. So, when Fei reached out with the suggestion, it was a no-brainer in saying “yes!” and designing something for her series. My session on 19 𝐌𝐚𝐲, 4-6 𝐩𝐦 will be an open speaking circle on the topic of speaking fears. More than just a ‘training workshop’, it’s going to be a discussive, experimental setting where I hope to facilitate your sharing on your speaking barriers and offer a safe practice space. No prerequisites required except for an open, curious mind! 💡 The main details are below and I will add the event link in the comments – join if this is something that resonates with you!
