Whilst our name is Chassis Autonomy and our foundation lies in developing steering systems for autonomous vehicles; our unique patented technology is equally ground-breaking when applied to human driven vehicles.
We have completed the conversion of our Polestar 2 to steer-by-wire (SbW) by integrating our CS2 road-wheel actuator with a hand-wheel actuator (HWA) that has been developed in partnership with a global automotive tier 1. The first loop of development tuning is complete, and the results are impressive to say the least. Our vehicle dynamics expert, Torbjörn Johansson shared the following:
"The first development loop is complete, and we’ve received outstanding feedback from steer-by-wire and vehicle dynamics experts from across the industry regarding the precision, response and steering feel of the SbW system.”
In the short video below, our Principal Test and Development Engineer, Simon Worker demonstrates the performance of the system in the most severe use case - static steering. The extremely low latency and rapid response are even more impressive when considering the tight +/- 115 degrees of steering wheel travel employed for this initial evaluation.
