As we mark the seventh anniversary of the Grenfell tragedy, it's a somber moment to reflect on how that fateful night forever altered the landscape of the fire safety industry. I write this as a fire engineer with two decades of experience and as the director of L H Fire Ltd. The Grenfell Tower fire was not just a wake-up call; it was a clarion call for change across the entire industry. While challenges persist, it's heartening to see the strides we've made. Every day, I witness significant improvements in construction practices and a shift towards more positive thinking. It's a testament to the resilience and dedication of those in our field. Yet, the journey is far from over. Recognizing individual competence and fostering professional development are critical as we navigate this uncharted path. The responsibility we bear as fire safety professionals is immense. Our decisions carry weight, and the consequences can be grave. The nights I spend awake, re-evaluating my projects, are a personal testament to the seriousness with which we must approach our work. To the families still grappling with the aftermath of Grenfell, my heart goes out to you. To those who lost their lives, I hope you know there are dedicated individuals tirelessly working for change. We honor your memory not just in words but through our actions, striving every day to ensure such a tragedy never occurs again. Together, we are on a journey towards a safer future, and while the road may be long, the progress we've made is undeniable. Let's continue to push forward, learn, and improve—for our industry, for society, and most importantly, for the lives that depend on us. #Grenfell #FireSafety #Construction #Engineering #Reflection #fireaware

It’s Firefighter Safety Stand Down Week. Abandoned and condemned structures are high-risk buildings, and they are hazardous to firefighters and communities. Many high-risk buildings are structurally unsound and not safe for any person to enter. Firefighters are at increased risk of injury or death when responding to these types of buildings. Reduce the risk for firefighters by partnering with fire departments to address high-risk buildings. Learn more during National Safety Month: https://bit.ly/3xwfQw1

Grenfell 7 Years Anniversary: A CALL TO ACTION Seven years ago, the Grenfell Tower fire claimed 72 lives, a tragedy rooted in preventable failures. Today, The Property Institute (TPI) stands with survivors and the community, urging the next Government to urgently address building safety. The next Government must rise to the occasion and commit to proactive, tangible measures that prioritize human life and safety above all else. This includes tackling implementation issues, overcoming slow progress, removing bureaucratic obstacles, and revisiting amendments to the Building Safety Act. We need to fully fix unsafe buildings and protect residents from unnecessary costs. As stated in our Manifesto: https://bit.ly/4aWYp5u – we need to finish the job of fixing unsafe buildings. Progress has been made with the Building Safety Act 2022, but many residents remain at risk. It's time for decisive action. We owe it to the victims, survivors, and ourselves to build safer communities. The next Government must act and deliver on the promises made in the wake of the Grenfell tragedy. Let us remember Grenfell not just with sorrow, but with an unwavering commitment to ensuring a safer future for all 💚 Read our full statement here: https://bit.ly/4c1OUTS #Grenfell #BuildingSafety #TPI #firesafety #government
