Make Your Gifts to Oregon’s Cultural Landscape Count   For more than two decades, the Oregon Cultural Trust has been a stable and reliable source of funding for Oregon’s arts, heritage and humanities nonprofits. No other state offers a tax credit to taxpayers who make donate to cultural organizations. No other state! That makes Oregon truly special. There are more than 1,650 qualified nonprofit organizations in Oregon that benefit from the Cultural Trust’s grant funding, in support of all forms of cultural experiences. They include libraries, museums, historical societies, cultural centers, etc.  – all of whom depend on this important funding. The Cultural Trust annually awards grant monies to Cultural Coalitions in every county. Their support reaches all corners of the state, and Oregonians value their work have this incredible opportunity to leverage their giving power. Since its inception in 2001, the Oregon Cultural Trust has awarded 10,000+ grants totaling more than $40 million in support of arts, heritage and humanities nonprofits. What can you do as an Oregon taxpayer to participate and maximize funding for the arts? It’s as easy as one, two, three! Step 1 Donate to one or more of the Cultural Trust’s qualifying nonprofits before the end of the year. Want to focus on nonprofits in your local community? Check our list of qualifying nonprofits. Then, add up the donations you’ve made to qualifying nonprofits for the year. Step 2 Donate a matching gift to the Oregon Cultural Trust by December 31 to qualify for the Cultural Tax Credit. For every matching dollar you donate to the Cultural Trust, the state will provide a dollar-for-dollar tax credit when you claim it on your state taxes. Keep in mind the tax credit limits are $500 for an individual, $1,000 for joint filers and $2,500 for class C or S corporations. Step 3 Claim your tax credit by entering the amount you donated to the Cultural Trust on your state tax form. So, mark your calendar for December 31. 🎉 Kicking Off Hispanic Heritage Month! 🎉 As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we must also confront the inequities faced by Latino communities in philanthropy. Despite making up nearly 19% of the U.S. population, Latino organizations receive less than 1% of philanthropic funding. This needs to change. The recent Alliance Magazine article highlights a powerful call from U.S. Latino organizations, urging philanthropy to step up and increase investments in Latino-led initiatives. Latino communities are critical drivers of social, economic, and cultural progress, and it's time for philanthropy to recognize and support this potential with intentional, long-term funding. We believe in supporting movements led by marginalized communities, and that includes our Latino partners working tirelessly for justice. Hispanic Heritage Month is a perfect time to reflect on the power of Latino leadership and the importance of equitable funding. ⭐ The arts and culture industry supports jobs, generates government tax revenue, strengthens the visitor economy and community vibrancy, and helps to preserve authentic cultural experiences. ⭐ Americans for the Arts recently launched The Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6), a report that measures the economic & social impact of nonprofit arts & culture organizations & their audiences. ⭐ The CAA is one of 373 national nonprofit organizations who spent a year and a half gathering data by conducting targeted audience-intercept surveys from event attendees from January 2022 through April 2023. This project is a great example of why I prefer custom-built solutions for nonprofits. Platforms like Squarespace, Wix, and Webflow are fine for quick, simple sites, but they really limit how much you can customize—and you’re locked into their ecosystem. That’s part of their strategy to keep customers, but it can be a huge drawback for organizations that need more flexibility as they grow. For NCCF, using WordPress gave us the freedom to add things like a searchable fund database—something that creates a much better experience for their users and directly supports their mission. Plus, WordPress makes it much easier for orgs to export their content, so they’re never stuck with one provider. Every nonprofit should have the tools to customize their outreach to fit their goals, not be boxed in by a web platform. This site is built to grow with NCCF and keep them focused on what they do best: making a difference for the people of Western New York.

The fulfillment derived from being a part of Rotary stems from the knowledge that their actions have positively impacted someone else's life. The individual believes that the desire to create a meaningful difference in the world is a crucial virtue to cultivate. They are constantly inspired by the dedicated individuals encountered within Rotary, witnessing the passion they invest in their roles and the tangible results they achieve. These individuals embody the ethos of the organization, embodying it in their daily lives, and in return, Rotary garners a wealth of goodwill and support. Moreover, they believe in the importance of incorporating fun into their endeavors. As Dr. Seuss aptly put it, "Fun is good." Therefore, they infuse a sense of liveliness into their club's volunteering activities, reinterpreting the "Service above Self" mantra to include enjoyment. After all, if joy is not found in their Rotary service, their commitment may wane. Contributing to their community and relishing the enjoyment that Rotary brings allows them to break out of their comfort zone. Through Rotary, they have the opportunity to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of equality among them as Rotarians. In today's fast-paced world, it is easy to overlook the significance of building community and embracing joy. If each person made a conscious effort daily to positively impact someone's life, particularly those they do not know, the world would undoubtedly be a better place. The latest issue of Local Development & Society focuses on an incredibly important topic for institutional philanthropy - place-based grantmaking. There is far too little research guidance on this form of philanthropic practice, but the articles in this issue help fill this void.
