As the harrowing details of the Kolkata incident get revealed, it becomes apparent that it was not an isolated case of gender based violence, but it was a brutal attempt at bludgeoning the very essence of humanity. Such incidents only bare the thread by which the entire medical and healthcare infrastructure of the country is hanging, which time and again becomes a noose around the neck of the healthcare professionals. The question we should be asking at this juncture is - is any place/profession/age/socieoeconomic strata safe for women in India? And the answer is a sad no! A lady doctor gets violated, raped and murdered while performing her 36 hour long shift in the state-run-hospital. Why was she working for 36 hours when there are laws that limit the working hours in government hospitals at 12 hours? Why did the Principal not lodge a FIR first given the fact that the murder happened in his organisation with an on duty employee? Why were the parents not allowed to see their deceased daughter for 3 hours after the news broke? Why did the Medical Superintendent try brushing the entire matter under the rugs by ruling it off as a case of suicide? Why were there no CCTV cameras installed in the hospital premises? Why was the principal reinstated within 4 hours of his resignation as principal of another hospital? Why were agitating students hit by the police? Such questions expose the systemic failures in India’s Healthcare infrastructure and the deplorable plight of state-run medical colleges and hospital. Not even a year back we saw the death of another promising young lady doctor Dr Vandana Das in the hands of a criminal while on duty. And now this. As the country celebrates its 78th Independece Day tomorrow, it is time for us to reiterate, are we indeed free? Or are we just at the receiving end of the crippled public health system of the country. Jai Hind. #Kolkata #RGKar

A Tragic Loss in Kolkata, The Death of Dr. Moumita Debnathc Dr. Moumita Debnath, a bright and promising student from RG Kar Medical College, has sent shockwaves through the medical community and beyond. At just 31, her life was cut short under circumstances that have raised numerous questions and sparked widespread outrage. Dr. Debnath was found lifeless in the seminar hall of the emergency building, a place where she should have been safe, surrounded by peers and mentors. Instead, it became the site of an unimaginable tragedy. The immediate response by the Kolkata Police, led by Commissioner Vineet Goyal, and the subsequent forensic investigation, indicate the gravity of the situation. However, as details emerge, the situation appears more complex and troubling. The involvement of a suspect, Sanjay Roy, and the arrest following her death, adds layers of concern. Was this truly a suicide, as initially reported, or something far more sinister? The State Commission for Women's intervention, along with the protests from junior doctors, highlight the deep-rooted issues of safety and security that plague our institutions. This incident isn’t just about one individual, it’s about the systemic failures that allowed such a tragedy to occur. It’s about the fears and frustrations of junior doctors who, while dedicating their lives to saving others, feel unsafe in their own workplaces. It’s about the grief of a mother who spoke to her daughter just the night before, never imagining it would be their last conversation. As we await the findings of the 11-member review committee, we must reflect on the larger implications of this case. The allegations of a cover-up, voiced by BJP representatives and others, suggest a need for transparency and accountability at every level. If there was indeed foul play, those responsible must be held accountable, and justice must be served. In the wake of this tragedy, it is crucial that we take decisive steps to ensure the safety and well being of our healthcare professionals. This incident should serve as a catalyst for meaningful change, addressing the systemic issues that put so many lives at risk. Let’s honor Dr. Moumita Debnath’s memory by demanding the truth and ensuring that no other medical professional has to face such a fate. #Kolkata #Healthcare #JusticeForMoumita #MedicalCommunity #SafetyInHealthcare #Accountability

Professional Expertise: To become specialists in their area, doctors have to undergo years of demanding training and education. They possess the skills, expertise, and clinical judgment required to evaluate your health, identify any problems, and suggest the best course of action, which may include prescription drugs. In conclusion, the wisdom and counsel of a qualified healthcare practitioner should always be trumped by the internet, even though it can be a useful resource for learning about topics connected to healthcare.
