Global IT Outage: Microsoft's Response and Collaboration with CrowdStrike Following a global technology outage, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed that they are collaborating closely with CrowdStrike to restore systems. The outage has significantly impacted Microsoft Windows, affecting various services, including transport and commercial sectors. In a statement on X, Nadella emphasized their efforts to provide technical guidance and support: "CrowdStrike released an update that began impacting IT systems globally. We are working closely to provide customers with the necessary support to safely bring their systems back online." CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz also addressed the issue, apologizing for the inconvenience and confirming that the problem was not related to a cyberattack. #crowdstrike outage This is what I saw at Dallas-Fort Worth on Friday at the Delta gate. Glad my flight was on Alaska. Delta is still down, 5 days - and $143 million - later. This shows: The importance of testing. Microsoft has been steadily *getting rid of testers* first by sending the jobs overseas, then giving lip service to unified engineering as a reason to eliminate the positions altogether, without actually training developers on how to test or dedicating resources to do it. That's on Microsoft. The importance of a rollback plan for any deployment, even something as routine as Windows Update patches. Rollout should have happened on a targeted set of servers first, and then been rolled out in waves. At the first sign of trouble, the impacted servers could be replaced or restored from a backup. At most, this should have been a limited impact and resolved in a matter of hours. That's on Delta.

July 19th was a historic day for tech support. Some of you might have faced the chilling blue screen of death. Maybe you missed a flight, or the register went down while shopping.
