It Took One Hand to Uncover This Mystery This case had our diving team inspecting the base of spun pile pillars that were alleged to have collapsed during a windstorm (the go-to excuse, right?). But here’s the thing, if you check out the video, you’ll see a small guy like me shaking one of the still-standing pillars with just one hand, no effort at all. Now, unless I’m secretly a mutant with superstrength (which I’m definitely not, opening a ketchup bottle for my wife is about my limit!), it’s pretty clear that the foundation of this pillar was severely weakened. The root cause? A lack of maintenance. These pillars, driven into the seabed, are constantly subjected to erosion from changing currents and water movement. Just like how sand shifts around your feet at the beach, the seabed around these pillars erodes over time, weakening their stability.
