The Joint Jogger function in NX Mechatronics Concept Designer (NX-MCD) provides an intuitive way for designers to control and position robotic systems. By allowing direct manipulation of each joint within a robot's kinematic structure, the Joint Jogger offers precise control over the robot’s movement. Designers can easily rotate or translate joints to specific angles or positions, making it simple to fine-tune the robot's posture for various tasks. This hands-on control not only speeds up the design process but also enhances the accuracy of robotic simulations, ensuring that robots will perform as intended in real-world applications. In addition to improving efficiency, the Joint Jogger function enables designers to visualize and validate robotic motion in real-time. As they adjust the joints, they can immediately see the effects on the robot's overall configuration, making it easier to identify and correct potential issues. This interactive approach is particularly useful when working on complex robotic systems with multiple degrees of freedom, where small adjustments can have significant impacts on the robot's behavior. By streamlining the process of positioning and configuring robots, the Joint Jogger function in NX-MCD helps designers create more reliable and optimized robotic systems. Another endeavor I undertook involved extracting the path and control codes for the application of the Directed Energy Deposition (DED) process, which utilized the GP12 Yaskawa Motoman robot. The DED technique represents a metal 3D-printing process employed for the coating or restoration of metallic components. #DED encompasses a laser source, powder feeder mechanism, carrier and shielding gasses, along with a motion system, all of which were implemented in this project via Yaskawa's robotic arm. This project was conducted three years prior, without the integration of the Autodesk Powermill robot library, but enhancements to the process were subsequently achieved through its utilization. In the project executed in 2021, the robot's trajectory was initially extracted using #PowerMill or other #CAM software, after which it was imported into the graphical user interface (GUI) that I developed utilizing the #AppDesigner component of #MATLAB software. During this phase, control parameters such as powder rate, laser power intensity, power activation and deactivation points, carrier and shielding gas specifications were incorporated into the movement trajectory, ultimately converting it into the "JBI" that is compatible with the Yaskawa robot. In this undertaking, the GP12 robot was first delineated in the #Powershape software, and the necessary robotic configurations were documented in a Machine Tool Definition (MTD) file. Subsequently, the #PostProcessor was tailored by the specified #control parameters, and through the PowerMill robot library, the requisite output for the robot was refined. You can see the results in #MotoSim in the video. A notable advantage of this method, as compared to my previous project conducted three years ago, is its versatility regarding the type of robot in use. It can accommodate a file of robotic models to create a Post Processor for various robots, such as #Kuka, #Fanuc, #Abb, or even user-defined robots, simplifying the generation of output codes and their corresponding simulations. #DED #DMD #3DPrint #Metal_3DPrint #Robot #PostProcessor #PowerMill #Robot_Library
