Meet Maxwell Frank Marvin, RSL LifeCare resident and World War II veteran whose life is a story of bravery and dedication. Born in Murrurundi in 1924, Max served with distinction in the Royal Australian Navy, navigating perilous waters and facing tough challenges. His time aboard the Wollongong and Fairmiles is marked by courage and a deep commitment. “One of the most intense moments was when the Wollongong was deployed to Singapore. We encountered enemy planes that eventually dropped bombs near us, adding to the tension. Despite the dangers, our skilled skipper and the crew’s agility helped us avoid disaster as we finally arrived in Singapore. There, we faced frequent air raids, and the ship’s manoeuvrability became our best defence against the bombings.” Now living at RSL ANZAC Village in Narrabeen, Maxwell keeps busy with village events and enjoys spending time with friends. His positive energy and friendly nature make him a valued member of the RSL LifeCare community. Read Maxwell's full story here: https://lnkd.in/dspgwg5N

Team Tuesday today features Devon Heisler, our Research and Marketing Specialist! Devon is a Central PA native who knows the area well. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from The Citadel in business administration and is currently in the process of becoming a licensed real estate agent in the state of Pennsylvania. Outside of SVN Latus, Devon also serves as a human resource specialist with the 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. When asked about his dream vacation, Devon answered: "Quite some time ago I got a large glass jar and to this day I throw quarters in it. Every time I have change I separate the quarters from the other coins and keep them in this large jar. I told my girlfriend years ago that when the jar gets full it was going to help fund my Caribbean vacation. It's getting close to being full, so I think in 2024 I will be cashing it in and ideally 2025 I'll be heading to the Caribbean for a vacation! I can't really say what Island I would choose for this vacation. There are a lot of neat countries and each island has its own special culture so It would honestly take me a good bit to decide. I would try to avoid the resort scene and get an Airbnb that allowed me to go out and explore the country and the local communities. I would have a couple of beach days, a couple of days exploring some smaller communities within the island, and try to get out on a hike and see the country's natural beauty. Lastly, one thing that is a must for me is that I would want to get out and go fishing. I'm not talking about some grand deep sea adventure, but rather an inshore trip that allowed me to see what the local fishing community of the country likes to fish for. In a perfect world, I would keep my catch and try to cook it up just like the locals would. There you have it, that's my dream vacation." Sounds like a great time, Devon! Here's to 2025's vacation plans! #svnlatus #teamtuesday #svn #svnnetwork #commercialrealestate #centralpa #cre #marketresearch

Hello LinkedIn friends, family, and acquaintances, today is NATIONAL MARITIME DAY - May 22! Each year on May 22nd, National Maritime Day recognizes the launch of the maritime industry in the United States. The celebration also honors America’s Merchant Marines for their contributions and sacrifices for our country. Special acknowledgment is given to ships and seafarers that have held a prominent place in our nation’s history. As one of the oldest industries, its time-honored traditions compose a full and rich history. Celebrations and ceremonies around the country recognize the people our maritime nation depends on. Each year the Department of Transportation holds a national ceremony in Washington D.C. at the Department of Transportation headquarters. While the holiday commemorates a transatlantic event, U.S. maritime industry encompasses nearly every state in the nation with workers transporting vessels on lakes, rivers, and oceans. Employment opportunities aren't limited to shipyards either. The maritime industry also calls for workers with expertise in fishing, aquaculture, processing, diving, and transportation, just to name a few. #NationalMaritimeDay #DallasHarrisTips+

Waiting periods for cadets in the Merchant Navy can be suffocating, often leading to anxiety and depression. It's a time filled with uncertainty, but staying focused, mentally strong, and connected to a support network can make all the difference. #waitingperiod #merchantnavy #cadet #sealife #seaman #lifestyle #home #navy https://lnkd.in/dSsB_kVt

For 4,000 years mariners have gone to sea in ships and boats, and for 4,000 years a certain number of those mariners and ships and boats have not returned. During the history of seafaring, mariners have made many mistakes and those that survive learn to change their behaviour. These lessons are translated over the years into traditions. Old mariners pass on these traditions to young mariners.

As some of the world’s largest inland seas, the lakes provide the United States with an opportunity similar to that found at Area 51.

This is a nonwork topic that I feel - very passionately - that everyone should know about: the history of colonization and the current military occupation of Hawai'i - yes, I said what I said 🤗 I bet you did not know that the islands had one of the highest literary rates 📚 before their government was illegally overthrown by the Dole pineapple guy 🍍 I bet you did not know that the US military paid $1 for 1000's of acres of land only to leave unexploded bombs for children to find 💣 I bet you did not know our largest aquaphor or fresh water source (known as Red Hill) has been knowingly poisoned for decades by the US Navy 🚰 But I bet you might have heard about Mark Zuckerberg's new compound on Kauai, or the entire island that Larry Ellison now owns, or that Marc Benioff just put his name on Hilo's only hospital 🤷 If you are traveling to the islands, please do so responsibly. 🧠 Don't own land where you don't reside. 🏠 Do not take anything from the islands. 🪨 Now more than ever you should plan to give more aloha spirit than you intend to receive, especially while Lahaina is still recovering 🌺 #travel #history #sustainability #occupation #Hawaii Watch: https://lnkd.in/gpB5b8iy
