Hiring for the new business director position at an agency is at its second lowest level since we started our survey report in 2010, with just 36% of agencies hiring a new business director in the past 3 years. And 29% of ad agencies said the average tenure of a new business director hire in 2023 is less than a year. 23% said it was 1 to 2 years. Hiring internally for the new business director position has always been a struggle, and that struggle is real-however-agencies often just don’t know what to look for when trying to hire internally for the development position.
