Today we celebrate Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free - over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Juneteenth marks a pivotal moment in the long struggle for freedom and equality for African Americans. While the abolition of slavery was a major milestone, we know the journey towards racial justice is ongoing. On this day, we recommit ourselves to fighting racism, upholding human rights, and building a more equitable society for all. #rbwn #rocklandbwn #juneteenth2024 #equalityforall #racialjustice

🧐Did you know the UN designated March 25th as International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and Transatlantic Slave Trade. Reparations are often proposed as a way to address the historical and ongoing injustices faced by African Americans. Advocates argue that reparations would serve as a gesture of acknowledgment, apology, and compensation for the lasting impacts of systemic racial discrimination. By rectifying the economic disparities caused by policies like redlining and discriminatory hiring practices, reparations could help break the cycles of inequality and foster a path towards equality and justice. Reflecting on American history reveals the harmful effects of policies that have disproportionately affected the African American community, creating systemic discrimination and disadvantage. The discussion of reparations is seen as a necessary step towards correcting these injustices and advancing towards a more equitable society. Examples such as slavery, Jim Crow Laws, sharecropping, redlining, and mass incarceration highlight the long-standing systemic injustices faced by African Americans throughout history. #civicengagement #policychange

Today we commemorate #Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. While slavery was abolished, we know that racism and inequalities persist to this day. Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the struggle for freedom, equality, and human rights. At WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, we believe businesses have an important role to play in reducing inequality and generating inclusive growth that can be enjoyed by all. Through our work with The Business Commission to Tackle Inequality, we are working to build a more just and equitable world through a shared focus on action, accountability, and ambition. Addressing inequality is both our responsibility and an opportunity for positive change. On this Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to being allies and agents of positive change. We continue striving for a world of dignity, respect, and opportunity for all people, regardless of race. Join us in reflecting on our progress and renewing our dedication to justice, anti-racism efforts, and achieving equity. Together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future where all can thrive.

On this International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Abolition, we unite in memory of the victims of the transatlantic slave trade and honor the resilience of those who fought for freedom. This year's theme, "Fighting Slavery's Legacy of Racism Through Transformative Education," reminds us that education is a powerful tool to dismantle the chains of racism and prejudice that persist in our world. Let us commit to educating ourselves and future generations about the history of slavery, the struggle for abolition, and the ongoing fight against racial inequality. Together, we can create a world where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background. Join us in commemorating this day by spreading awareness, engaging in meaningful conversations, and supporting initiatives that promote equality, justice, and inclusivity. Let us honor the past by working towards a more equitable future for all. #EndSlavery #RememberAndReflect #EducationForChange #UNESCO #alleyesonjudiciary #GSAI #EndGenderDiscrimination #unwomennigeria
