I'm not sure who heads up comms for Warner Bros. Discovery, but they may want to reconsider their strategy on media for David Zaslav. First, there was the piece in The Atlantic that sealed former head Chris Licht's fate and positioned Zaz as a bumbler with poor judgment. Now, there's the piece in The New York Times Magazine entitled "How David Zaslav Blew Up Hollywood." On no planet is it a flattering depiction of the CEO's #leadership. Instead of making him look like a maverick, they're making him look like the Dick Fuld of media...arrogant, unlikable and doing a job any high school kid could do. Yeah, I said it. Cutting cost is so easy even a high school kid could do it -- and for far less than $40M/year. Problem is, you eventually have nothing more to cut. The innovation/creativity stops, then the revenue nosedives. And the debtors holding onto that $45B tab will give zero f@cks. It's clear that there's no real vision in this business. They'll be lucky to sell it off in a firesale for parts. That's truly unfortunate for the 38k people who depend on WBD to live. #media #entertainment #warnerbrosdiscovery #ceo

Yesterday, I had the chance to hold the keynote at the Deutscher Produzententag, a leading film and media policy conference, organized by German Producers Alliance – Film & Television. In my speech, I spoke about how we at ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE create sustainable success for our company by focusing on local content. In December, we announced to focus more strongly on local #content and to even intensify our content investments by around 80 million euros more in 2024. This is a long-term commitment to local content and to local producers in Germany.   We at ProSiebenSat.1 build our freedom to shape our content offering to best suit our users – this is why we as a Group are not in favor of the planned #investment obligations, which Culture and Media Minister Claudia Roth introduced for discussion at the Produzententag. The current draft entails an investment obligation in local content for VOD providers of 20% of net revenues generated in Germany. We view the introduction very critically: In general, it leads to an over-regulation of the #production market, particularly with the various sub-quotas. That does not keep productions in Germany. And specifically for us: We are establishing Joyn GmbH in a quite difficult market environment and are now additionally burdened by new regulatory requirements.   On the other hand we welcome very much the tax incentive model - that is the most effective lever to incentivize investments in German productions. This really ensures that the contents will be produced in Germany and so strengthen this important industry. Furthermore it gives planning security.   The German Producers Alliance – Film & Television plays a crucial role in shaping the industry’s future and promotes collaboration among producers. Last week I got super inspired from a very unexpected corner.. I was watching Sophie & Jeroen - a Dutch talkshow on BNNVARA - and at the table was Arjan Lock (Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EO and Chairman of the College of Broadcasters). *Background story: for the past year there’s been a scandal going around in the Dutch television world about transgressive behaviour by the presenter of a very popular TV show. The discussion I watched was about this topic after a research report, about this topic, was published this month.* Now.. the EO (In English: Evangelical Broadcasting) is not the most innovative and forward thinking broadcast out there.. It’s generally for old people. Or so I thought anyway! Arjan Lock really came in strong to firstly talk about how the stories of the people that came forward should be taken seriously. But he then went on to describe what impact this has on the EO as an organisation. And that’s were I was blown away! He said that they enforce the following: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 Having technical knowledge doesn’t make you qualified to be a good manager or leader. So they instate two people responsible: one with knowledge, and one with people-skills. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺, 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 This is someone from within the existing team. And is appointed to discuss things which don’t set well with the employees. This isn’t your manager or your boss. It’s there to lower the threshold, and talk about improper behaviour or just things they don’t agree with/feel comfortable with. The goal? To open up, and change the television-culture. I love it! Most organisations hold onto the “old fashioned” way of doing things and don't focus on change much. Especially not from within. Arjan Lock you have a new fan over here! Following the release of our full-year results for 2023 last month, we convened with our shareholders in Luxembourg for RTL Group’s Annual General Meeting and presented them our financial results, business achievements and progress on strategic projects. Driven by external factors, 2023 was a challenging but overall successful year for RTL Group: To note specifically, the second half of the year was even one of the most profitable half-years in the history of our Group. From a strategic perspective, significant progress was made - for example in the areas of streaming, global content, alliances & partnerships or regarding our consolidation strategy with the envisaged sale of RTL Nederland. As a result, our Board proposed an attractive dividend of €2.75 per share, which was approved at our AGM and will be payable from 29 April 2024. In addition, I was appointed as a new Executive Director of RTL Group’s Board of Directors. I am looking forward to continuing driving the company’s strategic direction forward in this new role and would like to thank our shareholders for their trust. Telangana IT and Industries Minister #KTRamaRao, while inaugurating the center, said it was a privilege that the Hyderabad office for Warner Bros. Discovery was its first Greenfield office across the #Asia continent after the merger of #Warner Media and #Discovery. Thanking the multimedia cartel for choosing #Hyderabad. Warner Bros.
