Has Formula 1 lost its mojo? The demand for F1's Las Vegas Grand Prix needs to increase. Despite some sites preparing for "Super Bowl-level expectations," ticket prices and hotel room rates have decreased, indicating a lack of enthusiasm for the event. According to ticket reseller TickPick, fans can now purchase tickets for the main event on Saturday for $807, down from $1,645. Bloomberg cites several reasons for this loss of momentum, including the fact that #Vegas is not Monaco and the dominance of one driver leading to a lack of suspense. Lastly, TV audiences for #F1 races have decreased by 8% from the previous year. #f12023 #formula1 #lasvegas #lasvegasgrandprix #granprix #F1LasVegas #luxury

Formula E achieved record-breaking TV audiences and social media engagements for the season-opening Mexico race on January 13 which featured the fastest man on the planet, Usain Bolt, speed-testing the revolutionary Formula E GENBETA car in the race coverage. The next two rounds in the FIA Formula E World Championship take place this Friday and Saturday in Saudi Arabia. The global live overnight race audience in key markets grew by 57% for the Mexico City E-Prix, the first race of Season 10, compared to the corresponding opening race of last season, also in Mexico. The biggest growth in TV audiences came in the US and UK. An all-time high for the US market of 3.4m viewers watched the as-live full race broadcast by long-standing partner CBS on its main network channel, beating the previous high on the same channel for the New York City E-Prix in 2021. #FormulaE #MexicoEPrix #Season10 #GENBETA #ElectricRacing #FIAFormulaE #TVAudiences #SocialMediaEngagement #RecordBreaking #FormulaEWorldChampionship #TVGrowth #RacingCoverage #MotorsportsNews #GlobalAudience #ElectricCarRacing #MotorsportsEngagement #FormulaE2024 #ElectricMotorsports #Formula469 #469MotorsportsMENAT

The business of Formula 1 is BOOMING. 📈 The sports revenue has increased to US$887m in Q3, a year-over-year increase of 24%. A large factor in this success is 8 races being held in the third quarter of the year this season, as opposed to 7 last season. There has been a lot of large sum activity in the quarter: 🇧🇷 The contract for the Brazilian Grand Prix in São Paulo has been extended until 2030 📺 DAZN took exclusive broadcasting rights in Spain 🇺🇸 American Express came onboard as a regional partner in the Americas 🛞 The Pirelli tyre supply deal has been renewed until 2027 🏁 The all new all-female F1 Academy series has taken on investment 💲 F1 acquired Quint.Events for $313 million 🎲 Formula 1 also recently made the bold move to not have a promoter run event in Las Vegas, owning the promotional themselves. This means F1 is fronting all the costs for the event, such as track and paddock build (rumored to be $240 million). In Q3 alone there was $8 million worth of costs associated with the Las Vegas Grand Prix, making the YoY increase even more impressive. With F1 owning all the commercials around the race in Nevada, will there be an even more profitable Q4 for the Championship? #Formula1 #SportBusiness

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 𝟭'𝘀 𝗘𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗔-𝗙𝗢𝗖𝗔 𝗪𝗮𝗿 Beyond the glitz and glamour of Formula 1 a battle of wits, power, and control once raged, reshaping the very foundation of this beloved sport. This is the tale of the FISA-FOCA War, a conflict that wasn't just about regulations but about the future direction of Formula 1 itself. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻 At the heart of this conflict were two titans: the Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile (FISA) and the Formula One Constructors Association (FOCA). FISA, an autonomous subcommittee of the FIA, wielded control over the sport's technical and sporting regulations. FOCA, akin to a racing team union led by the astute Bernie Ecclestone, sought greater control over the commercial aspects of the sport. The late 1970s and early 1980s saw this tension boil over, culminating in a series of confrontations that threatened to split the sport in two. The most notable of these was the boycott of the 1982 San Marino Grand Prix by FOCA-affiliated teams, a bold move that underscored the depth of the rift. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗔 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 The resolution to this conflict came in the form of the Concorde Agreement, a landmark accord that balanced the power dynamics within Formula 1. FISA retained authority over the sport's regulations, while FOCA gained control over its commercial exploitation. This agreement not only averted a potential split but also laid the groundwork for the sport's commercial boom, transforming Formula 1 into the global spectacle we know today. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 The FISA-FOCA War was more than just a political skirmish; it was a transformative period that reshaped Formula 1's governance, commercial rights, and global appeal. The war and its resolution through the Concorde Agreement underscored the importance of collaboration and compromise in steering the sport towards a prosperous future. What do you think would have happened to Formula 1 if the FISA-FOCA War had ended differently? #Formula1 #FISAvsFOCA #ConcordeAgreement #MotorsportHistory #RacingLegacy

When does strategic acquisition in sport become monopolistic requiring closer regulatory scrutiny? With Liberty Media now owning Formula 1, Dorna Sports (MotoGP™, #SBK FIM World Superbike Championship) and a healthy chuck of Formula E, they have an increasing stranglehold of elite global #motorsport, creating what seems to be a classic monopolistic play. Where one entity has the ability to control the market, enabling it to set pricing and supply. For #Liberty read Public Investment Fund (PIF) and sovereign wealth in other sports such as #Tennis and #Golf. Is this something we should worry about and it's time for #governments and #regulators to step in, or are the forces of #capital too strong to resist? #SportsBiz #Sportbusiness #SportsEconomics #monopoly #privateequity #sovereignwealth FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile Sky BBC
