Jon Davies and I have been exchanging views on this important topic for more than 3 years with the process of procurement and industry reform with some notable initiatives like the NSW 10 point plan commitment to construction sector, NSW Premiers Memorandum on collaborative contracting for high risk infrastructure projects. That said the pace of change has been somewhat glacial and I have read countless bits of motherhood waffle that go nowhere. At the moment the infrastructure market is at a crossroads with the shift from mega transport projects to energy transition and housing. But I ask the question what have we learnt and how are we applying that knowledge. Whilst workers are moving and bringing transferable skills, there seems to be a dearth of formal thought leadership and knowledge sharing. The industry needs to get more productive and a lot of benefit is just common sense and use of existing known practices. Why aren't we sharing? Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced today that there is $42 million in funding for the Regional Site Readiness Program. The goal of the program is to ensure that sites are better prepared to attract future investment and growth, especially in the industrial sector. For years, the Illinois Manufacturers' Association called on elected officials to improve site readiness because we know that the time it takes to put a shovel in the ground on a project matters. It can make the difference between an investor choosing Illinois or another location. The time to get a permit issued, ensure that the site has power, remediation of land, and building out the infrastructure (roads, sewer, etc) are all extremely important when site selections are made. This Site Readiness Program that was created a few years ago is working but there are more sites that need help. DCEO is investing in planning activities such as environmental due diligence and preliminary engineering costs, as well as capital ready activities including capital improvements to road or utility infrastructure to increase the number of sites ready for industrial development.    Eligible applicants include local governments, economic development organizations, nonprofit organizations, and private landowners. Qualified entities can apply for Planning grants up to $150,000 and Capital Ready grants up to $3 million. Applications will be accepted through October 21.   More information is available at the DCEO website or questions can be sent to CEO.GrantHelp@illinois.gov for application assistance. DCEO will be hosting Technical Assistance (TA) sessions to provide assistance, answer questions, and provide information on July 30, August 8 and 21.   This is a great opportunity for communities to help make their sites ready for development!

According to a survey by AGC of California the positive outlook is apparent as respondents anticipate favorable financial performance and recruitment opportunities for their companies in 2024. Key report findings : 💥59% of survey respondents foresee growth or a moderate surge in business activities within California in 2024.  💥More than 69% of anticipate that the California construction sector will maintain its current pace or witness growth in expansion.  💥c 67% of respondents felt optimistic regarding the overall state of California’s construction industry. 💥80% of respondents felt confident in the future success and potential of their own companies’ prospects in 2024.
