Career & Now It’s another brutal week for entertainment jobs. The Walt Disney Company is laying off more staff. Paramount is cutting more gigs. NBCUniversal’s news division is shedding jobs. Yet the C-Suiters who drove the bus into this ditch will still get paid. It sucks. I know. I’ve written a LOT about what to do when you’re served this kind of shit sandwich. Today, I received news for a position I was hoping to get. Unfortunately, I once again didn't get the position. Although, I've unlocked another feedback achievement! I'm now officially an "overqualified" candidate. Feedback below: "Sandy provided all positive things and mentioned that if any other teams were hiring for these roles, she would love to speak to you again. Unfortunately, at this time, her needs are very basic CMS management and content work, so she feels you might be a bit overqualified. But if any other positions come out, she would highly recommend you for Disney overall!" I'm not sure what to think about this one, so instead I'm going to use this opportunity to promote myself. If you are in need of a seasoned product or project manager with a tool belt loaded with successful experiences, look no further - you've found him! Thought. There are some decent job postings out there. But, why do I, as an applicant, have to sign into your site to apply? Why can't there just be a way for the applicant to apply without creating a profile? I mean, what is the point of having another login for another site. Really. Especially if you don't even notify the applicant they were not considered. Is it so you can send junk mail to my email? Seriously, the only company I'm going to keep trying for is the Disney Store. But, the likelihood of that coming back is low to not at all. At least not in the northeast. Seriously, maybe make it a little easier for candidates to apply so you can get awesome employees for your team.

Friday is when positions are posted up the most, but nobody is applying even though this is the best time. See the guy in the orange? That’s my “some day” job. As in “some day” I will be the “Guy Who Rides On The Back Of The Tram And Reminds People Where They Parked At Disney World.”(GWROTBOTTARPWTPADW) I’m not really sure what the actual job title and responsibilities to be a GWROTBOTTARPWTPADW are or what skills and abilities are required but I’m pretty sure that I could be great at that job some day. I know Disney World. I can read the names and numbers in the parking lot. I also think I would like wearing reflective clothing. It seems to me the basic responsibilities are to: 1) Welcome People to Disney World, and 2) Remind them where they parked. THROUGH A MICROPHONE ON A TRAIN!!! How much fun would that be? I have spent my career as a professional communicator and as a senior level executive in charge of communications for large national organizations. This feels like it is RIGHT in my wheelhouse. I’m not ready quite yet, will be ready “some day” but if anyone out there is a recruiter for Walt Disney World, let me know.
