April is a month of profound significance. It's #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth, a time for raising our collective voice against the scourge of sexual violence and standing in solidarity with survivors. But amidst this awareness, April also carries a powerful theme of #hope. In our latest blog post, "Hope Observed," our staff psychologist, Nithya, dives deep into the theme of hope. She challenges conventional definitions of hope, showing how it defies linguistic bounds and becomes a lived experience, intricately woven into the fabric of human existence. One poignant anecdote she shares is of a father witnessing his son's graduation from a recovery program. Through tears of joy and resilience, the father finds renewed hope in his son's journey towards recovery. It's a testament to the transformative power of hope, transcending mere words and theories. we live in a world of antis. anti-semitism is on the rise--there is considerable anti-gay sentiment--there exists plenty of anti-african american sentiment-now we have a lot of anti-migrant sentiment with the influx of migrants to various cities-there exists and has for a long time a stigma for people with various forms of mental illness--and our society treats its senior population in a way that is often very sad--and people with various disabilities are often not given the treatment they deserve, and this book banning and attempts to rewrite african american history are all a part of this huge group of ANTIS. so what's the answer? it is very hard to change human nature, and parents have a lot to do with this. what parents tell their kids at a young age often sticks with those kids. a child comes into this world with a so-called blank slate--they dont come in with prejudice--it has to be implanted in them via parental comments--dont associate with this group or that group the youngsters are told-and in many cases thse sentiments stick with those kids into adulthood.

My framework as a psychotherapist is inspired by black feminist sci-fi writer, Octavia E. Butler who saw the possibility of many more worlds than just our own. I believe that transformative internal healing is critical to envisioning and building these worlds without the presence of imperialism, white supremacy, capitalism and cishet-patriarchy. The tools I use to support the exploration of individual, interpersonal and intergenerational trauma are shaped by abolition that rejects punitive and scarcity mindsets and disability justice which strives to value every body. Additionally, my philosophy as a healer centers the mind-body-spirit connection especially the physical, emotional and spiritual effects of systemic injustice in lived experiences of marginalized communities. Ultimately, I hope to collaboratively deepen your understanding of self and your relationships with others. We get it...we've been talking a lot about how our partner, friend, alum, and #BelovedCommunity member Alison McCrary is one of the makeover journeys featured in Season 8 of Queer Eye. As we celebrate #InternationalWomensDay, we wanted to give you a peek behind the makeover. We're inspired each and every day by the work she is doing to become a good ancestor -- as a conflict resolution trainer, mediator, social justice movement lawyer, and restorative justice practitioner. We'd love to hear from you in the comments: how does Alison's story inspire YOU to center kindness, radical empathy, compassion, and love -- not just for others in your communities, but also for yourself? #BeMoreWithAnu #BreakingBias #BreakingRacialBias #BiasTraining #UnconsciousBias #RacialBias #WorkplaceBias #BelongEverywhere #Mindfulness #BeMindful #Belonging #InclusiveWorkplace #DEIB #MentalHealth #BehaviorChange #BelovedCommunity #LetsDoIt #Science #Neuroscience #Neuroplasticity #QueerEye #QueerEyeSeason8

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a historic day of liberation and reflection. As behavioral health professionals, we recognize the importance of acknowledging and understanding our shared history to promote healing and unity. Juneteenth marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, highlighting the resilience and strength of communities overcoming adversity. It's a day to reflect on the journey toward equality and justice, promoting mental health and well-being for all. Let's honor this day by fostering conversations on racial equity, promoting empathy, and supporting each other's journeys toward healing and growth. Together, we can build a future rooted in understanding and compassion. 🕊️✊ #Juneteenth #Freedom #Unity #BehavioralHealth
