Continuing our deep dive into reasons why you should #hireateacher if you haven't already... Last week, we explored how transferable "Classroom Management" and "Lesson/Curriculum Planning" skills are to any industry. This week's transferable skills I want to highlight and celebrate are: Facilitation: Teachers excel at facilitating discussions, leading workshops, and creating engaging learning experiences. These skills are invaluable in corporate training, team-building activities, and client engagements, where effective facilitation drives success and innovation. Asking Questions: Teachers are adept at crafting essential questions that lead to deep understanding and critical thinking. This ability is crucial in roles requiring problem-solving and innovation, as asking the right questions often leads to the best solutions. From running meetings, interviewing people, leading training and development, and managing projects—educators are powerhouses full of foundational skills that work in pretty much any department. So, if you're a Hiring Manager and you see an educator's resume in your list—don't ignore them. Move them along in the hiring queue—at least give them the first call. #CareerAdvice #TeacherSkills #ProfessionalDevelopment #TransferableSkills #JobSearch

1-1 with your managers is one of the most important tools that you have to manage up and align on your expectations with your manager and the company. Early in my career I would end up discussing. - solutions to projects - coworker's behaviour that I didn't approve of (read crib) - prefer cancelling if I have nothing on my mind More often then not, I would try to seek help to solve more urgent problems. Only during the annual appraisals, I would ask for a feedback that would mostly be a surprise. Much later in my career I actually started asking the right questions and seeking feedback more actively and regularly. Its hard to not focus on problems at hand during 1-1s. But practise, till you start talking more deeply about career, aspirations, company, or even about thoughts around quitting the company. Remember, your manager is not a wizard with a magic wand who can just give you things that you seek if you do what they ask for. It needs to work for both of you and the company for all the entities to benefit in the long run. Look at them as your coach and mentor. #engineering #oneonone #managingup #mentorship #careercoach
