EU Medal Surge
The Olympics are under way in Paris, and the European Union is off to a splendid start. In the first day it won a total of 11 medals (compared with three for the USA and two for China). This includes three Golds, of which one was a rousing upset of Fiji in Rugby Sevens after a rousing display of EU talent by Antoine Dupont. The EU is the sports powerhouse no one can dismiss. Note: had the UK still been part of the EU, the total tally would have been "lucky thirteen". I will share an update on EU Olympics performance throughout the competition. #Olympics2024#EuropeanUnion#EU
Paris 2024 Olympic Results
1) European Union with 309 Olympic Medals
97 Gold + 95 Silver + 117 Bronze
2) USA with 126 Olympic Medals
40 Gold + 44 Silver + 42 Bronze
3) China with 91 Olympic Medals
40 Gold + 27 Silver + 24 Bronze
First European Union country:
France with 64 Olympic Medals
16 Gold + 26 Silver + 22 Bronze
Which country has won the most medals in Olympic history? 🥇
- United States: 2,959
- Soviet Union: 1,204
- Germany: 922
- Great Britain: 950
- China: 713
The country with the most gold medals is the United States with 1,179, according to the Olympic Foundation. The Soviet Union comes in second with 473 gold medals, and Germany third with 342 gold medals.
There's some debate around the medal count. Countries with large populations such as #Indonesia and #USA have a size advantage, so a raw medal count is misleading. On the other hand, there are only so many slots open for athletes at the Games, so maybe #India with 1.4 billion people doesn't actually have a large number advantage over #Brazil with 215 million people. Both countries would have a clear advantage over #Jamaica with 2.9 million people.
In the final analysis, any country is deemed successful at the Olympics if they performed better than the expectations they set for themselves. Showing up and being a good sport is just half the game.

Will France have its best-ever Olympic performance?
If history is a good guide, host nations over the last few Olympics have always increased their medal counts from the previous Games. 📈
2000: +17 for host Australia (+7 golds)
2004: +3 for host Greece (+2 golds)
2008: +37 for host China (+10 golds)
2012: +14 for host Great Britain (+10 golds)
2016: +2 for host Brazil (+4 golds)
2020: +17 for host Japan (+15 golds)
If historical averages hold, France might win more medals this summer than any edition since 1900. 🥇 🥈 🥉
And a top-5 finish won't be surprising.

Congrats Tatjana Smith and Alan Hatherly on bringing in our first 2 medals for South Africa at the Olympics 2024. You’ve made us proud.
As the saying goes, "The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary."
🏅 **From Olympic Gold to Corporate Success: The Power of Dedication and Hard Work** 🏅
Achieving an Olympic medal is the pinnacle of dedication and hard work. It requires relentless effort, unwavering focus, and a commitment to excellence that transcends boundaries. As we witness the incredible feats of athletes on the world stage, we are reminded of the parallels between their journey and the pursuit of success in the corporate world.
In both arenas, success is not simply handed out—it is earned through perseverance and tenacity. Athletes devote countless hours to training, pushing their limits, and overcoming obstacles to reach their goals. Similarly, in the corporate world, individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic, resilience, and a willingness to go the extra mile often stand out and achieve remarkable success.
Just as athletes strive for perfection in their sport, professionals in the business world must constantly seek ways to improve, innovate, and excel in their respective fields. The qualities that set Olympic medalists apart—discipline, determination, and a never-give-up attitude—are the same traits that drive individuals to achieve greatness in their careers.
So, whether you're chasing Olympic glory or climbing the corporate ladder, remember that success is not a destination but a journey. Embrace challenges, stay committed to your goals, and let your dedication and hard work propel you forward.
Here's to striving for excellence in all that we do! 🌟

Congratulations to our repeat Olympic champion, Tatjana Smith, for earning South Africa’s first gold medal at #Paris2024 with her stunning surge in the 100m breaststroke in the Paris La Defense Arena pool.
Congratulations too to mountain biker Alan Hatherly for collecting bronze in the men’s cross-country race, with the slightest of margins separating the podium party.
We can only look forward to more spectacular performances.
REAL OLYMPIC MEDALS LEAGUE TABLE - GO CARRIBEAN !!
The population or wealth of each country makes the much-followed Olympic medal league table all rather unfair and a bit of a farce. So its great to see the Caribbean taking the top spots in both the population and GDP adjusted Olympic medal table (medals per capital and medals per $ of GDP).

One More Time France Cheats Moroccan Soccer Team.
France cheated on the Moroccan soccer team during the last World Cup, and now at the 2024 Olympic Games, a goal was disallowed by VAR for offside. Morocco held on for a 2-1 victory. The 2022 World Cup semi-final between France and Morocco was indeed filled with controversy.
One of the key incidents involved a challenge by France’s Theo Hernandez on Morocco’s Sofiane Boufal, which many felt should have resulted in a penalty for Morocco. Instead, the referee awarded a free kick to France and booked Boufal.
This decision led to significant frustration among Moroccan fans and officials, who felt that the officiating was unfair.
The presence of Macron at this event was unusual and suspicious. Morocco even lodged an official complaint with FIFA regarding the referee’s performance, citing poor officiating as a major factor in their 2-0 loss to France.
This incident has added to the historical and emotional complexities between the two nations, given their colonial past.
The recent match between Morocco and Argentina at the 2024 Olympic Games was indeed dramatic, with Morocco securing a 2-1 victory after a controversial VAR decision disallowed Argentina’s late goal.
This incident has sparked discussions and emotions among fans, especially given Morocco’s impressive performance in recent international tournaments.
Why France wants to put down Moroccan Soccer team by any means? Colonialism is over. Right or wrong? What are your thoughts on this?
