Interesting that shoppers are now starting to take notice of ESL or Electronic Shelf Labels. These little screens powered by watch batteries are made of the same material that Kindle screens are made of and took off post pandemic at supermarket chains in order to tackle soaring labour costs. Europe or in particular France was one of the first countries to adopt due to hefty fines on any price discrepancy between shelf and till. I’ve come across several companies in the ESL value chain and it makes for a fascinating story. A great example of why I enjoy small cap investing 👍 https://lnkd.in/gPK235wc

ZigZag is a market-leading global returns solution provider. Smarter returns for retailers, customers and the planet. Founder, CEO, NED, Investor.
Alice Beer had some insightful points on charging for returns in the wake of PrettyLittleThing.com's ban on serial returners. ZigZag's research found 46% of shoppers purchase items in multiple sizes with the intention of returning at least one item in 2023, up from 33% in 2021. This "pile it high" attitude to eCommerce, coupled with the rising costs of logistics, is quickly making free returns untenable for retailers. No retailer wants to force consumers to pay for returns nor ban returns abusers, it's just quickly becoming a necessity to protect both profit margins and the environment. Our research shows that despite some cases of consumer unrest at the policy changes, largely shoppers are becoming more understanding of returns fees. Brands with brick-and-mortar stores can also offer free in-store returns to soften the financial blow for customers, whilst also boosting high street footfall and sales. Get in touch with me directly or through ZIgZag's website to find out other ways to reduce the cost and impact of returns! https://hubs.la/Q02HqX1H0 #ThisMorning #PaidReturns #Returns #ReverseLogistics #Retail #eCommerce #RetailTech #ReturnsPolicy

(- : noFoe : -) Reflections on Mon, 05aug24 🌄😀🌅 Good Morning 🙏🏽😀🙏🏽 Relationships are like traffic lights. And I just have this theory that I can only exist in a relationship if it's a green light. ~ Taylor Swift Commerce changes the fate and genius of nations. ~ Thomas Gray RELEVANT OBSERVANCE BY THE WORLD TODAY (theme / information / purpose "tip"): 01. International Traffic Light Day (Traffic lights, traffic signals, or stoplights are signalling devices positioned at road intersections, pedestrian crossings, and other locations to control traffic flow. The different traffic signals help pedestrians, bicyclists, horseback riders, and streetcars navigate the roadways more safely. Traffic lights normally contain three signals transmitting meaningful information to road users through colours and symbols, including arrows and bicycles. The regular traffic light colours are red, yellow [also known as amber], and green, arranged vertically or horizontally in that order. Although this is internationally standardised, variations in traffic light sequences and laws exist on national and local scales. The world’s first electric traffic signal was installed on 05 August 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio, US, so day commemorates the installation of the first traffic signal system. The day highlights the importance of the traffic light in transportation safety. #TrafficLightDay). 02. World Commerce Day (Commerce is the large-scale organised system of activities, functions, procedures and institutions that directly or indirectly contribute to the smooth, unhindered distribution and transfer of goods and services on a substantial scale and at the right time, place, quantity, quality and price through various channels from the original producers to the final consumers within local, regional, national or international economies. Diversity in the distribution of natural resources, differences in human needs and wants, division of labour, and comparative advantage are the principal factors facilitating commercial exchanges. The day falls on every first Monday of August. Commerce Day, known as ‘Fridagur verslunarmanna,’ is observed in Iceland. The idea came from Denmark, and though the tradition died out among Danes, it’s still going strong in Iceland. The first Commerce Day was observed on 13 September 1894, a date agreed upon at a meeting of unions and managers of the larger shops in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital. This public holiday aimed to give commercial workers a day off in the summer. Eventually, the day became popular among shop workers, tradespeople, and industrial workers. Commerce Day is a day to celebrate workers’ daily services and sacrifices. Like most large and small businesses, the National Stock Exchange shuts down its normal operations on this Day. #WorldCommerceDay #Commerce). Make it a Wonderful Day 👍🏽😀👍🏽 ------- Are you a (- : noFoe : -) ? n = nation / national / native o = opting F = Friendship o = over e = enmity -------

Simplest way is to convert upper floors into residential, just revert back 50 years where almost every building was mixed use. Problem is town centre property ownership, pensions/ funds/ high net worths all restrict redevelopment by their passive investment nature, only when it goes wrong do properties get sold and conversion is possible. I analysed Stratford-upon-Avon and worked out I could get 194 apartments, 320 bedrooms and c500 occupants from upper floors of retail spaces used for stock/ storage etc. if say 50% of that was delivered, preferably as affordable, you produce a permanent footfall to support retail and leisure, you can also then be more flexible on ground floor rents to retailers to bring a better mix in.

Surprised to see back to school offers starting in early July? Your memory isn't playing tricks on you, many retailers have pulled forward their BTS offers to try to capture spend as financial pressure decreases the projected spend per student. Only time will tell if this is an effective strategy, or will just cause margin erosion at a key selling period for many retailers. Where are you shopping for your BTS goods and how are you taking advantage of the early discounts available? https://lnkd.in/efYDVMyZ.
