Ever heard of a Rube Goldberg machine? I hadn't either! But apparently it's the name given to these cool contraptions you often see, where chain reactions are set off and triggered to perform simple actions in an overly complicated (yet very satisfying!) way. Anyway, just thought I'd share the latest bit of homework from the School of Motion course I'm currently doing "C4D Ascent." We were tasked to guide the ball down this rube goldberg machine using dynamics simulations, connectors and forces. The traditional approach to simulating deformable objects in real-time for games involves particle mechanics, where objects are discretized into particles connected by springs. However, there is an alternative: using continuum mechanics, which allows for more controllable, realistic, and complex deformation simulations. The video below demonstrates that this method can be applied in real-time on a large scale, as I was able to simulate over 4.22 million of tetrahedrons, representing 1.650 deforming beams (each beam composed of 512 hexahedrons, and each hexahedron consisting of 5 tetrahedrons). This implementation runs very efficiently on my GTX 3070. My new method is so fast that I’m considering publishing the results! 😉

#HECRAS Ever have a leak in your mesh around levees or high ground that should not be allowing volume transfers? A nice trick is to run a dummy simulation for a few hours, then plot your depth layer, then turn the opacity to near zero. Next open the Depth layer properties and on the right, turn on "Plot 2D Hydraulic Conductivity". Below is an example of traversing a levee where the conductivity is showing that both sides of the levee are not interacting with one another (desired). Hope this helps someone!

Improvements in the Enhanced visualization of constrained entities and masses. Check out the latest improvement which include: - The graphical noise removal in the display of constrained rigid bodies. - The inclusion of sashed lines to connect the center of gravity of each rigid part. - The more accurate representation of mass elements to better understand the distribution and impact of mass within the simulation models.
