**Happy World Teachers’ Day: Honoring Educators and Their Impact** Every year on October 5th, the world comes together to celebrate **World Teachers' Day**, a global occasion to recognize and appreciate the dedication, hard work, and crucial role that teachers play in shaping future generations. This year, the theme “**The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage**,” puts a spotlight on one of the most pressing issues facing education systems worldwide—the need for more teachers. **A Day of Gratitude and Reflection** World Teachers' Day has been celebrated since 1994 when UNESCO first declared the day in commemoration of the signing of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This recommendation set benchmarks for the rights and responsibilities of teachers, including standards for training, employment, and learning conditions. On this day, students, parents, and communities express their gratitude to teachers through various gestures, from handwritten notes to social media shout-outs. In schools across the globe, celebrations range from special assemblies to creative classroom activities, all aiming to remind everyone of the pivotal role teachers play in fostering a lifelong love of learning.

We know that each of our schools does many things well, but imagine that you're giving an "elevator pitch" about your school. Time is limited, there's just not enough opportunity to share 4 or 5 things, so you pick your best 3. ⌛ Try it. It's a fun exercise and helps to formulate strategic points of emphasis and stories about our schools. 📜 Here's an example: At Fredericton Christian Academy 🦅 our 3 greatest strengths are: 1️⃣ Tremendous teachers who are passionate about their craft 2️⃣ Caring Christian community where students are known 3️⃣ Excellent experiences provided in an authentic Canadian environment One place that I share our 3 greatest strengths is with international families at education fairs. 📸 In my experience, families appreciate schools that know and leverage their strengths to benefit their children. 👍

I've always believed that students flourish in environments enriched by diverse experiences and community voices. As a teacher, I prioritized more than just academics; I embraced community partnerships and service learning. On January 13, the U.S. Department of Education released the attached Dear Colleague Letter highlighting the critical importance of retaining special educators in their positions, and the crucial role principals play in retaining special education personnel. In partnership with the LEAD IDEA and CEEDAR Centers, we are excited to introduce the Principal Navigator for Special Educator Retention, which includes high leverage practices and actionable steps that can be used immediately by local administrators to improve retention of special education personnel. https://lnkd.in/ejcUdhkX

In this blog, Alicia McKenna of Shotton Hall Research School explains how the leadership team at Hermitage Academy prioritised teacher development to improve pupil outcomes. "By reinforcing both pedagogical skills and subject-specific knowledge, Hermitage Academy equipped its teachers with the tools they needed to drive pupil progress."
