In order to ensure food security and #nutrition world-wide, a fundamental transformation of the agricultural and food systems is necessary. Currently, our #foodsystems, especially the most intensive ones, contribute to harming natural resources, including #land and #water. At the same time, many forms of food production around the world do have positive roles in ecosystems preservation and restoration. #Foodsecurity #Ruraldevelopment #Argroecology #Agriculture 👉https://ow.ly/H1rj50TcmEu

New paper - on #insect #feeds in #aquaculture. We published a few weeks back an article – a bit niche – on "#Nudging the acceptance of insects-fed farmed fish among mature consumers" in Aquaculture Economics and Management, with Lucia Baldi, Maria Teresa Trentinaglia, and Massimo Peri In this article, we test the #acceptability of insect-based feed in farmed fish consumption. Insect-based feeds are widely considered a more #sustainable replacement for fish-based and plant-based feeds for aquaculture, providing better #nutrition to the fish, and it's part of a #circulareconomy. However, consumer acceptance of these products is often low. Here, we explored how #information and #priming influence the acceptability of insect-farmed fish among Italian consumers aged 55 and over, a conservative segment when it comes to #foodchoices. We show that informing or priming consumers with images of the environment and nature changes consumers’ beliefs about alternative feeds, indirectly increasing their consumption intentions. #Behaviouralinterventions can facilitate the acceptance of novel foods, and support the development of a more sustainable #aquaculture #system. Enjoy!

🚀Hands on practical with honey bee (Apis mellifera)🐝 🎞📽 Capturing of wild honey bee for bee keeping - Apiculture. Some insights of apiculture/ beekeeping 🐝 1. Easy to handle. Does not require intensive labor. 2-3 inspections a month is enough. 2. honey making process. most of the honey making process is done by the bee's. 3. Does not relatively require large space to rear honey bee. In a small space, you can make large quantity of honey. 4. Absenteeism of harmful pest and disease of Apis mellifera in PNG. Termites may be the main one but can be eradicated through timely inspection and effective management. 5. Profitable 📈. The market is good with a price rate of K20-30/kg. #Agriculture #Apiculture

𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🐟- 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐩𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞❗ Recently, we discussed population growth, and as you're aware, as the population increases, so does consumption. Analyzing the available sources, we observe that the consumption of fish remains at a stable level, with some indications of an upward trend. The latest FAO report, "The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2022", indicates that global consumption of fish and seafood reached 20.2 kg per person in 2020 ⁽ᵗʰᵉ ʳᵉᵖᵒʳᵗ ⁱˢ ⁱˢˢᵘᵉᵈ ᵉᵛᵉʳʸ ᵗʷᵒ ʸᵉᵃʳˢ⁾. Projections based on current practices and changes in dietary trends suggest a potential 📈 15% increase in aquatic food consumption, resulting in an average of 21.4 kg of food per capita by 2030. ⁉ Is your production line adequately prepared for this anticipated growth? #consumption #foodconsumption #bernicomachines

🐟 Managing Fish Pond Issues during Heat Waves 🌞 Summer brings warmth and vitality to fish farming ponds, but it also brings unique challenges. Here's a precise breakdown: 1. High Water Temperature: Problem: Heat waves can increase the temperature of water levels beyond comforting levels causing fish to die. High water temperature also leads to dissolved oxygen depletion. Solution: Maintain water heights upto 6-8 feet in ponds. Dig deep (upto 6 feet) pits in several places in ponds where fish can take shelter during time of high heat. Add water hyacinth in few places bounded by ropes to provide shelter and to reduce temperature of the water during heat waves. Monitor weather forecasts for potential turnovers. 2. Low Water: Problem: Evaporation and drought can decrease water levels, stressing fish. Solution: Refrain from adding well water during the day to avoid temperature and pH shocks. Instead do it in late night times. 3. Excessive Weed Growth due to Intensive Sunlight: Problem: Too much weeds obstruct water flow and compete with fish for oxygen. Solution: Mechanical removal: Raking or seining. Biological control: Introduce herbivorous fish like grass carp. Chemical treatment: Use herbicides cautiously, following guidelines. 4. Harmful Algae Blooms (HABs): Problem: Algae blooms can deplete oxygen and release toxins harmful to fish. Solution: Ensure water circulation with aeration systems. Add water probiotics fortnightly with Bacillus strain to control algae levels. Control nutrient runoff from surrounding areas. Reduce feeding for few days. 🔍 Connect with us for tailored solutions in aquaculture. Beekeeping, or apiculture, is the practice of maintaining bee colonies, usually in hives, for the production of honey and other products, such as beeswax, pollen, and propolis. It also supports the pollination of plants, which is crucial for agriculture and ecosystem health. Key aspects of beekeeping include: Hive Management: Properly managing bee colonies involves checking hive health, ensuring the queen is active, and managing honey production. Seasonal Care: Beekeepers need to adapt their practices according to the seasons, including providing food and managing hive insulation during colder months. Disease and Pest Management: Monitoring and controlling pests like Varroa mites and diseases like American foulbrood are essential to maintain healthy colonies. Harvesting Honey: Extracting honey typically involves removing honey-filled frames from the hive and using an extractor to separate the honey from the comb. Beekeeping requires knowledge and care but can be a rewarding hobby or profession that benefits both the beekeeper and the environment.
