IT SEEMS LACK OF TRAINING AND POOR SALES CULTURES ARE THE MAIN REASONS ENGINEERS ARE NO LONGER INTERESTED IN SALES POSITIONS!!! Following on from yesterday's post I can't tell you many people have reached out to me to share their thoughts and experiences. So what was the most common feedback from engineers that have tried sales in the #FireAndSecurity industry??? 1) - Lack of training. The majority had little or even NO formal sales training. 2) - Poor sales cultures. Managed with the stick rather than the carrott!!! It appears that most employers that tried transitioning into sales were relying on the engineers technical ability and personality to be succesfull. A bit of a "do or die" approach. Culturally, it appears that most companies operated with a fear factor to drive their sales forces. Managing Clearly the lack of training and support has resulted in engineers developing a real sceptism regarding pursuing sales as a viable career option. I understand that there are lots of other strong career options for engineers, personally I would love to see more giving the sales route some serious consideration.
