My Journey to Google IT Support Certification I'm thrilled to share my story of achieving the Google IT Support Certification! This journey has been a game-changer for my career, and I'm excited to inspire others to take the leap. As a curious and tech-savvy individual, I've always been fascinated by the world of IT. However, transitioning into this field seemed daunting. That was until I discovered the Google IT Support Certification program. The program's comprehensive curriculum and hands-on labs helped me build a solid foundation in IT support. I learned about computer hardware, networking, operating systems, and cybersecurity. The online community and support resources were invaluable, providing guidance and motivation throughout my journey. I believe completing this certification program will open doors to new opportunities. I've gained confidence in my abilities, and my resume looks more attractive to potential employers. Thinking about a career in IT or cybersecurity and wondering if you need a degree? Let's dive in. I've got an associate in Software Engineering and a bachelor's in Information Technology. Did they make a difference? Honestly, not really. If you're hoping a degree alone will get you noticed by employers, it's time to rethink that strategy. In my experience, what I learned getting my degrees hasn't directly applied to my work as a security engineer. And when I moved to Australia? No one cared about my credentials. Still, university isn't just about the degree. It teaches you critical thinking, research skills, how to present ideas, manage your time, and the importance of building a network. These are valuable, no doubt. But here's something to consider: If you're working full-time or looking to change careers and you're worried about the time and money for a degree, know that there are other paths into IT and cybersecurity. After doing some research, and listening to testimonials, I think I've found the best path way to break into tech: 1) Google IT Support Professional cert: This 5 part entry level course (Foundations, Networking, Operating Systems, Security, and Business) not only covers the basics of pretty much every IT field (in a broad sense), but it also offers a professional certificate at the end. It can also be free if you audit it on YouTube, or finish the Coursera course within a week. https://lnkd.in/eX3ayfgi 2) Start applying to HELP DESK roles. This is not necessarily a "step" in the process, more something you should just be doing throughout the process. I put this as number 2 because I have seen so many people afraid to just apply to positions because they don't have enough certs, or the right kind of certs, or whatever excuse. The truth of the matter is you should be applying to entry level jobs as soon as possible. The interview process will give you a huge opportunity to work on your soft skills, and if you land the position, the on the job training (OJT) and real world experiences you will receive far out ways any course of certificate you would receive. 3) Figure out what you want to do next. At this point, you should have a very solid foundation in the IT industry, and if you landed a help desk role, you have real world experience (if not I suggest seeking some virtual internships, link below). By all accounts you're ready to take your career to the next level, but which next level? Network engineer, Blue Team, stay Help Desk? Unfortunately I can't answer that question, you just have to find out what you enjoy and pursue it.
