Nobody cares if our brand pioneered the category, or if it was the most innovative a decade ago, or if it achieved something remarkable last year. These are all significant accomplishments, but the truth is, people are focused on the problems ("jobs") they need to accomplish today (currently, people's attention span is as short as a goldfish) 👉 In simpler terms, what truly matters is the value we are delivering now! And in my experience, achieving this doesn't rely solely on bold visions, strategies, or analytical prowess. 👉 What truly counts to non-stop value creation is the dedication and passion of the team to continuously improve and never rest on their successes. I recall a wise insight from a warehouse manager when I asked about his biggest challenge. He said, "It's making my team forget about yesterday's victories and approach each day with renewed energy, as if they're starting from scratch." #people #growthmindset ps: and this perspective applies not only to brands and businesses but also to our careers. It’s hard to believe I’ve already completed my first two weeks at Baldor Specialty Foods! Transitioning from a chef to an inside sales representative has been a whirlwind, but every day has been a new opportunity to learn, grow, and adapt to this exciting chapter in my career. Over the past two weeks, I’ve: 📦 Trained in routing, dispatch, and warehouse operations to understand how every piece of the process works. 🚛 Gone on a ride-along with a delivery driver, getting a firsthand look at the incredible work that goes into delivering for our customers. 📞 Gotten on the phones, connecting with customers and beginning to find my rhythm in sales. 🔄 Made a few mistakes (and learned from them!) while pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. The biggest takeaway so far? Growth comes from immersing yourself in the process, staying open to learning, and embracing the challenges along the way. Being part of a company that values its employees and provides such hands-on training has made all the difference. I feel more confident each day and am excited to see how I continue to evolve in this role. To those in the midst of a career transition: The first few weeks can feel overwhelming, but they’re also the foundation for the success that lies ahead. Hmm why don't we hear more about these things? 🤔 A great example from Molson Coors Beverage Company on hiring for potential by scrapping the CV altogether. The results are encouraging, as candidates with the right mindset and values seem to be quickly thriving in their new roles. There has been a rather strong support for "hiring for potential" for more than a couple of years. It seems as if most people, at least in the talent acquisition community, can see the benefits of the approach to adress both talent shortage and to improve the diversity outcome of a hiring process. I think this is a wonderful picture of a couple of people who landed new jobs as a result of a future-looking (potential) rather than backwards-looking (direct experience) process.
