Mixing ink for monoprinting - a quick process video from the studio. Printmaking ink systems include three parts - the ink with colour / pigment, extender (ink without pigment) and a third part that changes the viscosity or stickiness of the ink (not illustrated here, but with Hawthorn inks this is linseed jelly or oil). The three parts can be mixed to achieve the desired effect when printmaking. The higher the ratio of extender to pigment, the more transparent the layer of ink when printed. For monoprinting this is important as it is a process of building layers of colour which combine on the paper to create new colours. Do you questions about printmaking? Let me know

🔹 The Art of Registration: Transferring Ink Between Blocks for a Perfect Two-Color Print 🎨 In printmaking, precision is everything—especially when working with multiple colors. One of my favorite techniques is transferring ink between blocks and paper to register two colors perfectly. How does it work? I first carve the design into one block, apply ink, and print it onto the paper. The tricky part comes next: transferring the print from the paper back to the second block. This ensures the alignment is exact when I print the second color. It takes patience, skill, and a deep understanding of the process, but the result is worth it—vivid, layered colors that come together in harmony. 🔑 #ArtTechnique #PrintmakingProcess #TwoColorPrint #ArtistLife #PrintmakersOfLinkedIn

Following my last post about the new CURVD® mug packaging, I'm excited to share a short video of our prototype with my designer and engineer friends. I used standard cardboard and cut out pieces following the die-cut pattern, then printed my design using black ink on white paper. Although the final print will be white on cardboard, this quick prototype worked perfectly for our review. Check it out! #packagingdesign #prototyping

What a nice orange spot color...let's see what it looks like in process...ohhhhhhh nooooooooooo... A quick review for all those out there who don't stare at swatch books all day long: Spot colors, AKA Pantone Colors or PMS Colors, are (in a perfect world) precise, vibrant and consistent. The idea is that the exact color I spec in my swatch book, that I then add to my swatches in my design file will print perfectly at the printer. (There might be some variation due to substrate, but usually "What You See Is What You Get" rings true. Essentially these colors are created with a special recipe of ink that is created precisely by a press person. Process colors, on the other hand, can sometimes be a completely different animal. These are colors created by layering CMYK. There's still a "recipe", however because these colors are made this way they are often less vibrant and a little unpredicatble. Just look at the conversion of yellow colors, ornage colors, and even some blue to see the stark differentces between Spot and Process colors. If you have the time and budget, work with your printer on scatter proofs or drawdowns for the proposed colors. This way, you, your designer, and the printer can align on expectations before committing to printing 250k units! Navigating the world of spot vs. process colors can be tricky, but understanding these basics can save you from some major headaches. Share your color challenges below! The good, the bad and the ugly! #PackagingDesign #GraphicDesign #ColorStruggles #SpotColors #ProcessColors #ButtermilkCreative #betterwithbuttermilk

14 ft. Feather Flag X-Based Double-Sided (Graphic Package) 14ft. Large Feather Flag w/ X Base is a great height for garnering attention outdoor's. Custom printed on polyester mesh by the process of dye sublimation, inks heavily saturate the material to create a "bleed-through" visual effect for single-sided prints, and double-sided prints are finished with a silver-gray blocker that lays between. Black flag trim is sewn on a graphic for easy pole insertion. A set of grommets installed on the lower trim receives the short bungee cord (included) through its loop and snuggly attaches the graphic to the base. Insert spike base into the grass. A package with print embellishment automatically becomes something keepable and memorable. 💭Imagine receiving a product you ordered and the package having holographic, gloss, and foil spots with emboss… the whole experience changes. Print embellishments can provide luxury and uniqueness characteristics to anything it is applied to, in cases of packaging, the first impression is compromised, and with embellishments, you will make sure that customers do not forget your business name nor the product. “Our Scodix Ultra 6000, aligns with the Landa machine. We can take printed press sheets and embellish them with sculpted raised 3D spot UVs, foils, and etchings to create cool effects.” – Jim Singer #brodnax21cprinters #digitalembellishments #printembellishments #embellishments #directmail #directmailmarketing #commercialprinting #commercialprinters #printingservices
