Faced with the rugged terrain of the Hajar mountains ⛰️, our team was called upon to provide essential support for a major rail project in the UAE. We performed detailed rock mass characterisation and slope assessments, allowing us to suggest safe and optimised excavation support for the construction team. This ensured the safety and stability of the project in this challenging area. Our experts provided crucial support for over 50 km of open rock slopes and nine tunnels, including the longest tunnel in the GCC, extending over 1.8 km. 🚆 #Fugro #RailProject #EngineeringExcellence #UAE

The offshore wind pipeline is aiming to deliver 410 additional GW of wind energy over the next 10 years 🎯. This means achieving 6x what the industry has delivered in the last 20 years in half the amount of time. Floating offshore wind will allow for wind farms to be constructed at much greater water depths 🌊, further out from the coast where wind speeds and opportunity for energy generation are far higher 🌬 but developing floating foundation offshore wind brings with it some new challenges. Industry experts like James Faroppa from Fugro, Emily Summers from Simply Blue Group, Daniel Gumsley from Marsh, Will Apps from The Crown Estate and Amy Beeston from DNV share insights on the intricacies of developing offshore floating wind farms. They highlight the importance of collecting accurate seabed data, the certification process, getting skilled people and the evolving insurance landscape. 🎙️Listen to the podcast and be part of the conversation! #FloatingWind #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #EngineeringMatters #Fugro

Next up in our #SpeciesInTheSpotlight series that looks 🔍 at the wonderful world of marine invertebrates is the Japanese skeleton shrimp (𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘮𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢). 📍 West coast of Scotland Part of the Caprellidae family, these shrimps have slender, skeleton-like bodies that blend with seaweeds and sea ferns. Native to north-east Asia, they were first recorded in Scottish in 2000 and have since spread across the UK, especially in high-activity areas, likely via aquaculture or shipping. 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘮𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢 show gender differences, with females being smaller and having brood pouches for developing their young, as seen in the photo below. 👇 📷 credit: Ryan Coombes & Donna Ridland #MarineBiodiversity #EnvironmentalServices #SafeAndLiveableWorld #Fugro

We were delighted to host a visit from the Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Corporation (GBK), the peak body for PBCs across the Torres and Endeavour Straits region. Together with GBK, Paul Seaton Fugro and our EO Hub SmartCoast project partners at James Cook University and @EOMAP-geodata-as to leverage hydrospatial and earth observation data to support the adaptation of our coastal communities to climate change. Our efforts focus on the mapping, modelling, and monitoring vital mangrove ecosystems, which play a key role in supporting island communities that are among the most exposed to climate risk. While we look to new technologies for solutions for the climate challenge, any sustainable future must always honour the wisdom and culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander custodians of the lands and seas.🌱🌏 #ClimateChange #Fugro #Coastalresilience
