Fun Fact : In 2022, I competed in my first bobdybuilding competition, as a Figure competitor (WILD!) This is from someone who spent most of my life until my early 20s as a VERY overweight person. While health and fitness have been a central part of my life for several years now, a bodybuilding competition was not on my agenda (until it was). This video was filmed just a few weeks before the big day. The journey was draining but SO empowering, and a journey I truly enjoyed. There is something special that happens when you push yourself past previous limits to prove to yourself just what you are capable of. I had the privilege of working with my incredible coach, Lesley Chin (who also competed that year), and the support of the rest of my #FamilyinFitness at The Performace Lab. My daughter, Eliza, watched me train for many months and was in the audience at the show. She still talks about my "posing" until today. It may have been my first bodybuilding competition, but it will not be my last (thinking about a go at powerlifting too 🤔). What I leart from my first bodybuilding competition: 1) Lift Heavy Things. 2) Cardio is not fun but it doesn't have to be boring. 3) You can live on chicken breast and asparagus. 4) Do it Anyway. 5) Your body will go where your mind can lead it. 6) Coaches are a must. 7) Say no to things that don't serve you. Don't be afraid of challenging yourself and stepping into uncharted waters. You may just find a better, stronger version of yourself. #FitMom #LabFam #ThisMamaLifts #CaymanIslands

Proud of my team is an understatement! The More Life Shoot that went underway recently was a huge vote of confidence inside the programme to exactly what we do. More Life takes you from where you are, to where you want to be in the most enjoyable and clear way possible whilst building confidence and autonomy. This shoot was a huge vote of confidence not just for the programme, but those who took part too! A shoot of four very different body types. All on very different journeys All part of More Life Group - But coached based on their individual goals, barriers, struggles and ambitions. I put myself in with this because it really was a different thing for every person myself included. I'd never run shoot prep before, and i'd never done it alongside getting shoot ready myself. I've had clients whilst heading towards shows, but this was way different. It goes to show, that your goal posts are always going to move. What was once important to you will not always be. But so long as your main mission is self improvement and your not moving the goal posts because 'it got hard' then more power to you. Want to find out more about how we will take you to the next level In fitness, aesthetics, health, self challenge and so much more. Today's deadlift session was humbling to say the least. This video was put together for entertainment, but this was a bad session and nothing went to plan numbers or technique wise. I came in thinking I can pull my old numbers with zero real prep in 2 months AND being in a cut for the last month and a half. It was supposed to be 585lbs for 3x2 and back down sets of 475lbs 3x6. Things felt good when I pulled 495lbs for a warm up double very easily (shown in video), but that was a fluke as 585lbs beat my a** physically and mentally the very next set as it took two tries to pull it once. After that, I thought I'll just drop it to 545lbs to finish up my 3x2s "I KNOW I can do that at least". Nope. I only had 1x1 left in the tank. Dropped it down to 515lbs at least do a 2x2, which I did, but that was a dog fight (shown in video). I was so fried after these attempts I just called it a wrap on deadlifting altogether and went to the next exercise because my technique was starting to fall a part and the last thing I need is ANOTHER back injury. I said all that to say it's very easy to tell a false story for social media, but only you know the truth. So, while you've enjoyed the entertainment from this video. You also now know the truth behind the session. 🔸️🔸️🔸️ NASM- CPT/CNC/VCS ONLINE & IN PERSON TRAINING/PROGRAM AVAILABLE‼️ #fitness #FitnessJourney #personaltrainer #discipline #motivation #weightlossjourney #gymlife #fit #gym #deadlifts

International Strength & Conditioning Coach | Volleyball Warm-Up Specialist | 2016 Olympic Gold Medal-Winning Coach | Making Training More Beneficial and Less Boring
Possible hot take here—I don’t have my players deadlift heavy in the weight room. Even though DL is probably the most popular hip hinge exercise for strength and conditioning coaches, I’ve learned over the years that the juice isn’t worth the squeeze - especially with my tight timeline each summer. I know too many coaches and athletes who have hurt themselves chasing big deadlifts. My worst coaching moment was when one of my athletes tweaked her back on a 125 kg deadlift. That said, I still use the deadlift hinging pattern throughout the season, but I vary the tempos (slow eccentrics, fast eccentrics), the foot positions (staggered stance, single leg), with different force vectors (bands pulling us forward), and I even mix deadlifts in as a contrast exercise with box jumps for some complex training. So while I don’t go heavy, I do find volleyball-specific ways to incorporate the hinge without risking injury. I expect some strong opinions from coaches out there, so drop your thoughts in the comments. I’m ready for it. #DeadliftDebate #HipHingeTraining #StrengthAndConditioning #SmartTraining #ContrastTraining #AthleteSafety #TeamGermany #rettasaurus #NoZombies

Sometimes, you have those special moments that make you wonder why you ever stopped doing something you once feared. As I mentioned, I had a fear of deadlifting for over 10 years because I wasn't taught the correct form or given the right equipment. Last summer, I went to Lake Tahoe, and my uncle took me to @southtahoecrossfit. I was doing different exercises until I saw him deadlift. I decided to face my fear and give deadlifting another shot. I found a six-inch plyometrics box to kneel on and a belt to adapt the deadlift to fit my needs. I managed to deadlift 155lbs. When I got home, I bought a plyometrics box and continued my deadlifting journey @seattletrainingzone. Within four months, I kept hitting new personal records. In February 2024, I hit a 210lbs deadlift but got stuck at that weight. Today, I went to my uncle's gym, @vasafitness, in Littleton, Colorado, and I really wanted to deadlift because it's been a few weeks. Not having the same bar or plyometrics box can be a struggle, but I am NoExcusesSteve. My left hand kept slipping, so @big_man_benji0420 let me borrow his weightlifting straps. If there's a will, there's a way. I got a lot of curious stares, but it took about 10 tries, no music, hardly any chalk, but pure adrenaline. There's no better way to hit a personal record of 215lbs than with my uncle, who got me back into deadlifting! #cerebralpalsy #wheelchairuser #awareness #advocate #motivationalspeaker #athlete #strong #fitness #health #gym #workout #businessowner #storytelling #contentcreator #leader #passion #proud #disability #disabilities #personofcolor #inclusion #inspiration #journey #motivation #positivevibes #respect #educate #powerful #lifestyle

People are often impressed when they see top athletes effortlessly doing Olympic lifting. You might also notice another group of folks doing a different kind of lifting, often drawing lots of comments. I think the most important things are how you do it (form) and the skills you use (technique). This got me thinking about the order of steps that might be crucial in Olympic lifting, where the sequence really matters. I believe this order is important for all sports involving body movements. Here's my suggested order for the key aspects: Form, Technique, Efficiency, Results, and Reducing the risk of injury. 🏋️♂️ 1. Form: Emphasizing proper form is crucial in Olympic lifting. It involves maintaining correct body positions, alignment, and movement patterns to execute lifts safely and effectively. 💪 2. Technique: Technique goes together with form and refers to the specific skills and mechanics involved in Olympic lifting. It includes aspects such as grip, stance, bar path, and timing. 🤸♂️ 3. Efficiency: Once form and technique are established, the goal is to perform lifts with efficiency. Efficiency involves minimizing energy wastage and optimizing movements to achieve the desired results. 🔄 4. Results: The aim of Olympic lifting is to achieve specific performance outcomes or results. This could include lifting heavier weights, improving personal records, or achieving competitive success. 🏆 5. Reduce Injury: Prioritizing form, technique, and efficiency not only contributes to better results but also plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of injuries. Proper execution of lifts is essential for long-term athletic development and injury prevention. 🚑 So, the sequence is: Form → Technique → Efficiency → Results → Reduce Injury. This sequence reflects a progression from foundational elements (form and technique) to performance outcomes and injury prevention. . . #SportsPerformance #AthleteDevelopment #StrengthTraining #Conditioning #AthleticPerformance #SportsTraining #SportsScience #FitnessForAthletes #PerformanceCoaching #PeakPerformance #SportsPhysiology #TrainingMethods #AthleticTraining #SportsNutrition #SpeedTraining #PowerTraining #EnduranceTraining #RecoveryStrategies #InjuryPrevention #HighPerformanceTraining
