Contract Agreement Signed for the Preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for introduction of Metro Corridor from Koyambedu to Avadi awarded for a value of Rs. 80.48 Lakhs Chennai Metro Rail Limited has signed a Contract Agreement for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for introduction of Metro Rail from Koyambedu to Avadi via Padi Pudhu nagar, Ambattur and Thirumullaivoyal. The Contract has been awarded to M/s RITES Limited for a value of Rs. 80.48 Lakhs (excluding GST). The Letter of Acceptance (LOA) was issued to M/s RITES Limited on 11.06.2024. In the presence of Thiru. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Managing Director, CMRL and Thiru. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), the Contract Agreement was signed by Thiru. T. Livingstone Eliazer, CGM (PP&D) on behalf of CMRL and Thiru. SudeepKumar Gupta, AGM/UE on behalf of M/s RITES Limited. Tmt. Rekha Prakash, CGM (P&D), and other officials from CMRL & the Consultant were also present during the occasion. This proposed corridor is approximately 16 km long and include approximately 15 Elevated Metro Stations. The preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the corridor is being undertaken considering the developments such as Information Technology Parks, industrial and thickly populated areas along the corridor. The work involves more than 30 boreholes for soil investigation and conducting topographical survey for the entire length. The assignment is expected to be completed by November 2024. Express Global Logistics (EXG), member to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) in India, managed a complex heavy and oversized movement of Cold Boxes from Adani Hazira Port in Gujarat, India to a designated jobsite. A total of 18 parcels were included for the transportation, including two Cold Boxes with dimensions: 62.7 x 6.56 x 6.6 m, each weighing an impressive 232.5 metric tons, demonstrating the need for precise logistical planning and execution. A configuration of 28 axles was employed to distribute the weight of the cargo evenly and ensure stable transportation. SPMTs (Self-Propelled Modular Transporters), 24 axles, were used to manoeuvre the cargo efficiently through the route’s various challenges. During the project, the EXG team undertook essential civil work to guarantee the safe and smooth passage of these oversized packages. They pre-emptively addressed road conditions by filling potholes, ensuring a smooth and damage-free transit for the heavy cargo. To accommodate the dimensions of the cargo, EXG worked with local authorities to temporarily dismantle electrical wiring, camera poles, and navigation boards, safeguarding both the infrastructure and the cargo. The team promptly reinstalled all dismantled elements after the cargo had passed, minimizing disruptions to the local area. Given the significant length of the cargo, navigating tight curves was a challenge. To avoid any potential damage to the equipment, EXG team carefully dismantled road dividers along the route. Once the cargo had cleared the area, the dividers were swiftly rebuilt, restoring normal traffic flow and infrastructure. Kanpur Metro on Fast Track: First Tunnel Completed on Key Corridor. The first tunnel of the Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section (Corridor-1) is complete. This 1,250-meter "up-line" tunnel, constructed using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named "Azad," marks the project's first breakthrough. Tunneling from Motijheel to Nayaganj is finished, and both "Azad" and "Vidyarthi" TBMs are being used for tunnel construction in Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section. The next tunnels will be built using the cut-and-cover method, extending from Swadeshi Cotton Mill towards Kanpur Central. The project is a testament to the dedication of the #UPMRC team, who are innovatively combining tunnel construction with system installation and track work to expedite completion.
