#ThrowbackThursday – Exploring the Secrets of Deer Antlers! 🦌✨ Did you know deer shed their antlers every year? But don’t worry - Father Christmas’s team is safe for now! Antlers don’t typically shed until after Christmas, so they’re ready for their important mission. 🎅✨ Last year, during a trip to Scotland, OR3D CT found a deer antler and decided to put it under the spotlight of our leading CT scanning technology. In this Scan Quest, we explored its intricate structure using Wall Thickness Analysis. Using the EasyTom 230 from RX Solutions - NDT, we captured high-resolution radiographs of the antler. Equipped with a cone-beam X-ray source and a flat-panel detector, it allowed us to create detailed 3D models. We then imported the scan data into Volume Graphics, part of Hexagon, a powerful tool for CT data visualisation and analysis. With its Wall Thickness Analysis module, we examined the antler’s internal structure, even measuring the blood vessels that once supplied nutrients during its growth.
