“What’s Next?”
A mundane question that’s much more powerful than it appears.
It’s the most-often-asked question of the best President in US history: The West Wing’s Josiah Bartlet.
Whether his White House staff were celebrating winning a crucial Congressional vote, or commiserating a devastating story leaked to the press, “What’s Next?” was his call to arms. Move on, there’s work to be done.
I hear it every week from my son’s u9’s footie coach, when someone’s done a great bit of skill or just lost possession. “What’s Next?”
It keeps the boys in the moment, not dwelling on what just happened.
This week we’re waiting on the outcome of a couple of big proposals that we’ve put together, and there’s a temptation to dwell on them – or worse, to chase for decisions.
To my mind, we’ve worked hard to answer the briefs and we’ve put some incredible options in front of them.
It doesn’t mean we’ll win the bids: we’ve no divine right and there are other players in the game.
But for now, on those particular projects, we’ve done what we can. The decisions are beyond our control, and there’s work to be done.
