Will you be successful?
That I don't know, but I do know my Uber driver will be.
After returning from the NRA show, we collected our luggage and called for an Uber. When our driver arrived, he quickly apologized for the wait (which wasn't much of a wait at all), helped us with our bags, and into the car. Nice positioning for a tip.
We learned his name was Stephen, and when I inquired if he drove full time, he told us he worked in IT and drove when he was off. Then he pointed to a stack of post office boxes in his front seat and said that he also sold cleaning supplies through Amazon. When I asked him if he could make any money doing that, he assured me he could - especially with those customers who sign up for auto shipping.
Now I'm not saying you need to be working three jobs to be successful, but I am saying that when you have a fire in your belly, like Stephen, there's no doubt you will go far. And let's break Stephen's day down just a little more - when Stephen is not driving customers, he is listening to podcasts on self-help, investing, and health. So, basically, Stephen is also in school while he's working.
At home, he has his twelve-year old neighbor packaging his Amazon orders for him. This win/win scenario works for the kid who is looking to make some money and Stephen doesn't have to spend the time doing that chore. Then, during his Uber trips, Stephen deposits the boxes at the post office.
Stephen has learned some incredible life lessons: he maximizes his time, he continues to learn, and he finds win/win scenarios. Being successful means something different for each one of us, but there is a common thread: being self-sufficient, finding satisfaction in your life, and preparing for the future.
Zig Ziglar wrote SEE YOU AT THE TOP 25 years ago - three key takeaways from that book are:
*You cannot consistently perform in a manner that is inconsistent with the way you see yourself
*The opportunity lies in the man and not in the job.
*Education and intelligence are not the same thing
To Zig's point - we all have the ability to be successful. There's no doubt Stephen will reach the top and there's no doubt that each and everyone of us can too. If you would like to read Zig Ziglar's life-changing book, message me below and I will send you a copy - because I believe that we all belong, with Zig, at the top.
