While this study focused on Doctors in the NZ health system, I think that there are some clear takeaways for the Aged Care sector in both NZ and Australia. The Aged Care sector in both countries recruits heavily from overseas for Registered Nurses and there is unfortunately a high level of turnover in the industry. While reasons such as pay contribute to the issue (and shouldn't be overlooked!), each provider should be looking at their onboarding practices as well as their ongoing support for nurses to ensure that their new employees thrive in their new roles. It takes a huge amount of effort to recruit and induct new nurses from other countries so every effort should be made to help them adjust. This article shows that some initial, one-off type training isn't enough and that ongoing support will be needed.

With the reforms to the Skilled Workers Immigration Act from the 1st of March 2024, more #healthcare professionals from third countries will have access to the #jobmarket in #germany. Currently qualified care givers from third countries are able to enter as long as they fulfil certain conditions. From March this will be extended to qualified #nursing assistants. If their vocational training course was under three years, they may be employed in the healthcare sector as long a they have a German qualification or a qualification from abroad that has been recognised in Germany. In addition, it will be easier for third country nationals to look for a #job after completing vocational training in the healthcare sector. Nursing assistants will be able to apply for a work permit for the purpose of looking for a job for up to twelve months. As long as they are financially self-sufficient, this may be extended for a further six months. With the new reforms in March there are no language restrictions. However, in practice, the vast majority of jobs in this sector require a good knowledge of German. Healthcare professionals are in high demand in Germany and in the #frankfurt #rheinmain region, in particular, in the field of #geriatriccare. If you are a healthcare professional and are interested in working in the #frankfurt #rheinmain region, you will find more information on our website: https://lnkd.in/drq8G5V

📢 Launching the HELP Program: Supporting Newcomer Physicians in Canada In the midst of a national health human resources shortage, the number of internationally educated healthcare practitioners (IEHPs) practicing in Canada has increased significantly. Yet, many #skilled #newcomers still face barriers to entering the healthcare system. With only 67% of internationally educated physicians working in healthcare compared to 95% of Canadian-trained doctors, the need for support is critical. That’s why we’re excited to launch the Health English Language Pro (HELP) program. In partnership with Dr. Eva Grunfeld, O.C., HELP offers 12 one-on-one conversations designed to improve medical English and boost the confidence of internationally educated physicians. By focusing on #language and #communication skills, HELP aims to help newcomer physicians overcome barriers and better integrate into Canada’s #healthcare system. Join us in bridging the gap for internationally educated physicians. Learn more today: https://lnkd.in/gvgcvATn #Healthcare #Newcomers #MedicalEnglish #HELPProgram #HealthcareShortage

Cultural competence is just as important as language skills when accessing healthcare abroad. Understanding the cultural nuances of healthcare practices in a new country can help expatriates better navigate the system. Healthcare providers with cultural competence training can also bridge the gap, offering expatriates more effective and empathetic care. #CulturalCompetence #ExpatHealthcare #CulturalAwareness #HealthcareAccess

🇩🇪🇦🇱 Young healthcare professionals from Albania are making significant sacrifices to pursue their careers in Germany, where the healthcare sector is facing a skills shortage. Many of these professionals have decided to leave their home country in search of better opportunities, despite the challenges they face. However, these professionals are not just motivated by salary; they seek better working conditions to stay in their home country. Despite the difficulties, some young healthcare professionals in Albania are determined to stay and contribute to their country's healthcare system. The Albanian government has introduced a law to make recent medical graduates work in their home country for up to 5 years or until they pay back their tuition fees. However, this law cannot force students to stay, and many continue to leave for better opportunities abroad. Let's support them in their journey and encourage them to stay connected with their roots. #Albania #Healthcare #Germany #YoungProfessionals. https://lnkd.in/drAfb45p

We recognize the impact the medical professional strike in South Korea is having on our members’ access to non-emergent care. The Aetna International network team is closely monitoring the situation. Here are some valuable tips for those who may be affected: * Continue to try to access care through your providers and intended facilities, understanding there is no certainty you will or can be seen. * Care will likely need to be paid for upfront and claims submitted for reimbursement, as Guarantee of Payments (GOP) for direct payment may not be accepted. * If you have a previously scheduled appointment, reach out to your provider in advance to discuss rescheduling or alterative options for care. Cancellations of appointments for non-emergent care continue to rise and acceptance of new patients and appointments are limited due to reduced provider availability. And of course, members can contact Aetna International Member Services for support at any time by calling the number on their member ID card. https://lnkd.in/gNwrykwK

5moThis is so important Ryan and such an important issue across aged care and primary healthcare. The interesting thing is that it doesn't have to be this way and learning solutions exist today to deal with this pain ... both the pain of the individuals in these roles and the organisational pain that results.
