Recently, the St. James's Place Financial Adviser Academy partnered with Indeed to take a deep dive into attitudes to a career change in the UK.   Did you know that whilst many UK workers are not happy with their personal career choice, over a quarter (27%) have never actually taken the plunge and changed career?   Moreover, a staggering three in five (60%) of us have designs on an imminent career switch and would, if the opportunity arose, change job within the next 12 months.    Often, people just don't know where to look when it comes to exploring alternative career paths. It was a real pleasure to speak to the Personal Finance Society yesterday helping younger people or those looking at retraining take their first steps into the financial planning profession, and I'm grateful to see Professional Adviser spreading the message more widely today. Something we talked about a lot were the misconceptions we encounter as financial advisers, primarily in that most of what we talk about isn't financial at all. Does someone want to retire early because their parents died young? Do they want to help get their kids on the property ladder because it took them a long time? The calculators and spreadsheets are definitely there in the background, but the privilege of my role is getting to talk to families about what matters to them, and helping structure their finances to support those goals.
