As a data scientist who grew up obsessed with video games, this stat is pure gold: the OG Game Boy, released in 1989, is still the 4th best-selling console ever, with nearly 120 million units sold. https://lnkd.in/g2zikFVe Here's what made this brick of a device so magical: "Lateral thinking with withered technology": A philosophy by designer Gunpei Yokoi that championed using simpler tech to create engaging experiences. This resulted in the Game Boy's long battery life and iconic durability. Simplicity is key: Four buttons and a directional pad - that's all you needed to embark on epic adventures. The user-friendly design made gaming accessible for a whole new generation. A portal to countless worlds: From Tetris to Pokemon, the Game Boy offered a vast library of games that sparked imaginations and fueled countless hours of fun. The Game Boy's legacy is a reminder that the best technology isn't always about the most advanced specs, but rather the experiences it creates. Have you seen the original Gameboy in the NYC Nintendo Store? They have one that survived one of the Iraqi wars with burn damage that's still running! (Tbh probably replaced internals, but the shell is still intact which is incredible)
