Momentum is building. You can be a part of it reach out to Don and Tim to ask how you can sponsor a screening or the series and bring the film to your community!
Big night in at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis for Don Sawyer and Tim Hashko this week as over 1000 people came for their showing of Beyond the Bridge: A Solution to Homelessness. Mayor Joe Hogsett came all the way from the DNC in Chicago to intro to film and pledged his support for Housing First and upcoming initiatives that are being worked on. Had the opportunity to be on stage for a great Q&A session with Sam Tsemberis, PhD, Chelsea Haring- Cozzi, Ph.D., Pastor David Green, and Restee Johnson. This is what a social impact campaign is all about. Congrats Don and Tim and thank you for everything you are doing to keep moving this important work forward.

I so appreciate this reflection from my colleague:
Focusing on the Long-Term Vision: Holding Space for the Both/And
As mentioned, the decision by SCOTUS to hear Johnson v Grants Pass guarantees generational impacts on housing justice efforts. How the Supreme Court rules will either uphold values that create a path for housing justice to be realized. Or - it will give permission for this country to expand efforts on criminalizing and incarcerating Black, Indigenous, and other people of color and marginalized identities who disproportionately experience homelessness.
This case is yet another indicator of how our systems are embedded in white supremacy. Our movement often finds itself in a constant cycle of crisis response at the expense of energy and resources that could be dedicated to transformational work and proactive positioning. It is important to act with a sense of urgency and we must also be intentional, coordinated, and bold in how our work is connected to long-term impact.
As philanthropy, we need to ask ourselves: how we can abundantly resource both the immediate needs and the long-term generational work? How can we make the case internally to fund organizing and advocacy like we want to win - not just in 2024 or 2025, but for the next 10 to 20 years?
Tell Us: What do you need to strategize around the both/and of this work? How can Funders Together to End Homelessness help?

1/31:"The data is alarming. Housing costs in the NYC area went up 68% in the last decade. Evictions nearly tripled in 2023. Homelessness has reached record highs. And it’s not just a New York City problem. Forty of the state’s 62 counties had higher eviction filings in 2022 than before the pandemic.
The real estate industry is pouring millions into blocking basic tenant protections. We need to make it clear to our representatives in Albany: Passing statewide good cause eviction protections is the bare minimum.
Tell your legislators: We need you to act now to stop unjust evictions and ensure all New Yorkers have a place to call home.
🔴 Tenants have a simple message for our lawmakers: housing is a human right. We won’t let them forget it."

Ensuring dignity and sustainability, On The House Denver offers a lifeline to Coloradans transitioning from homelessness by providing free furniture and household items. This not only eases financial burdens but also affirms the importance of personal choice and environmental conservation.
Observing such initiatives raises key questions about nonprofit sustainability and accountability. How can we continuously improve these programs to ensure they meet their goals effectively?
A few insights to ponder:
- Furnishing a home can cost several thousand dollars. How do furniture banks alleviate such financial stresses for individuals starting anew?
- The collaboration between nonprofits and for-profit businesses puts sustainability at the forefront. What other symbiotic relationships can we foster to reinforce these efforts?
It's crucial we reflect on the practices that enhance transparency and efficiency in our sector. How can we further the dialogue on accountability in philanthropy?
Let's celebrate and support initiatives that not only support people but also our planet. 🌍

💥 Our next Grapevine Speaker's Series is happening on April 4! 💥
It’s estimated that 6 million people experience homelessness in the U.S. each year and one out of every two Americans is one paycheck away from not being able to afford rent. We also know that 82% of Americans believe the U.S. should be doing more to prevent homelessness. So what’s preventing us from addressing this issue in a real and effective way?
💬 This conversation will outline how and why community-based work and advocacy is at the heart of addressing the homelessness crisis. The scope of the problem can feel daunting, but community-centric models like Giving Circles bring reason for hope by prioritizing our shared humanity and desire for collective change.
🎟 Grab your spot to the conversation on April 4 here: https://lnkd.in/eibBwA5u

In a world where action speaks louder than words, let's embody the true spirit of love.
"If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?" This scripture isn't just words; it's a call to action. A reminder that our love, grounded in faith, must move us to act, especially towards those facing the harsh reality of homelessness.
From 2022 to 2023, we've seen an 11% increase in unsheltered homelessness. These aren't mere statistics; they represent real people in need of our compassion and help.
City Relief is more than a name; it's our mission. We're here to provide shelter, fight for affordable housing, address racial and economic injustice, and support uplifting services. Because love, the kind that's real and filled with faith, acts.
Together, we can turn our collective love into a force that changes the world, one act of kindness at a time.

Yesterday the 100 in 100 initiative was launched in Grand Rapids.
“An effort to house 100 individuals who are experiencing homelessness in 100 days with an intentional focus on chronic homelessness.”
So encouraging to see this private/public partnership. Homelessness is a community-wide problem, and the entire community needs to be part of the solution.

- Let's recognize every person has having inherent dignity and value.
- Let's be proximate to others who are different than us.
- Let's engage others with a posture of humility.
- Let's seek first to understand, then to be understood.

HOPE is Homeless.
Hope is an unexpected hand for a stranger.
Home is not just a roof, home is a place where you feel comfortable and secure.
Once you help yourself you can help others.
Help is growing.
To get out one person of the streets in 6-12 months, it gets 30 people to meet one hour/week to stranger that they don’t know.
Some people get out of the streets because of the government helps, but they need a job.
Is where #HomelessEntrepreneur is focus.
Is not just putting a roof over their heads, is about giving them the #opportunity of being active citizens, turning availabilities into assets, turning donations into deposits, that they may give back to other people to get off the streets.
Housing first is a great way to be able to focus on their lives, but they need a job. 35% of the them are #homeless because the lost their jobs.
#Hope is working, getting off the streets and being able to get involved in the society.
Talent can change our/their lives.
Yesterday our friend Andrew Funk started #thegreatwalk.
A Fundraising Campaign to raise awareness & end global homelessness.
“The Great Walk,” is a 150 km walk to give a voice and presence to the 150 million homeless individuals worldwide: Every kilometer they walk represents 1 million people made of potential experiencing homelessness. The upcoming Great Walk will culminate in a sleep out, coinciding with the XXXIII Olympic Summer Games in Paris, France.
Their aim is to inspire individuals affected by homelessness and their future support network through their commitment to ending homelessness, so they can connect the two groups faster and ultimately speed up the process of ending their state of homelessness.
Hope is an unexpected hand for a stranger.
