What is at risk when pressure is placed on our infrastructure? What happens to our resilience when the unthinkable happens? Most importantly, how do we prepare for and mitigate against the unexpected?
RWI Synthetics was selected from 20 pilot projects to convey ideas and raise awareness around the potential for innovative technologies to help solve these challenges at the Connected Communities Conference on September 24-25, 2024, in Franklin, Tennessee, sponsored by Tennessee Valley Authority. We had the opportunity to share our featured pilot project simulating an unprecedented cold snap and power outage in Nashville. RWI Synthetics’ work often has us exploring concepts of sustainability and resiliency. A staggering number of data points go into a synthetic model like this — everything from the extent to which aging infrastructure could keep people warm, or when and where it might fail, to the very human needs people experience immediately following an outage.
Seeing, meeting, and learning from individuals committed to making our communities more equitable was beyond inspiring. People are at the heart of everything we do, and it was wonderful connecting with like-minded resilience builders. We want to thank the Tennessee Valley Authority, Georgia Caruthers, and Lisa Akins (previously Haislip) for hosting and facilitating the event and the fellow innovators striving to make our communities more resilient, equitable, and affordable.
