Encourage healthy habits: Eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and managing stress can all help to improve kidney function. Family and friends can encourage their loved one to adopt these healthy habits and may even want to participate in activities such as walks or healthy meal planning together. 2. Provide emotional support: Chronic kidney disease can be a difficult diagnosis to cope with. Family and friends can provide emotional support by listening, offering encouragement, and being there to lend a helping hand when needed. 3. Help with medical appointments: Keeping track of medical appointments, medications, and test results can be overwhelming. Family and friends can offer to help by accompanying their loved one to appointments, taking notes, or even helping to schedule appointments. 4. Be informed: Learning about chronic kidney disease and its treatment options can help family and friends to better support their loved one. You cough a thousand times a day, you can’t find your next word, you stumble out of exhaustion, you feel like a zombie.' - Mike, living with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). People with pulmonary fibrosis (PF) can have difficulty breathing, a constant debilitating cough, struggle with a dry mouth and nose, and lose strength and energy. PF is a devastating lung disease, where daily tasks can become a challenge. Doing the simplest things, like walking around the house, can be overwhelmingly difficult. PF affects many people but it's not widely known about. Here at Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis, we are here to support those living with and affected by PF. June is National Scleroderma Awareness Month, a time to educate and raise awareness about scleroderma and its effect on individuals and families. Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes hardening and thickening of the skin and internal organs due to excess collagen production. Scleroderma might also affect the digestive tract and blood vessels. While there is currently no cure for scleroderma, treatment can relieve symptoms and help improve quality of life. 🤷♀️ Sadly most people don’t give their kidneys a thought unless something goes wrong with them. However, our kidneys are so important and play a vital role in keeping us healthy. They may not be very big but they have some VERY important functions! ❗ When your kidneys fail, harmful wastes build up in your body, your blood pressure may rise, and your body may retain excess fluid which can leading to ankle swelling and shortness of breath. It is also important to note that your heart and kidneys are strongly connected – problems with your heart can put pressure on your kidneys, and if your kidneys are not working properly, they are likely to affect your heart. 💬 Chronic kidney disease (CKD) means that your kidneys do not work as well as they should. When this happens, you need treatment to replace the work of your failed kidneys. Today, on IgA Nephropathy Awareness Day, we stand united to shed light on this lesser-known but debilitating chronic kidney disease that has currently no cure. IgA Nephropathy, also known as Berger Disease, is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by an excess of immunoglobulin A (IgA) deposits in the kidneys, that can lead to long-term kidney damage.
