Woods Fund Chicago announces the first grantmaking cycle of its scale in the foundation's history: $4.7+ million in grant awards to 96 organizations, coalitions, pooled funds, and capacity-building initiatives, with 69 organizations receiving multiyear, unrestricted general operating support in the form of $150,000 grants disbursed in three annual $50,000 installments — a total commitment of over $11.5 million through 2026. Q&A: The Silicon Valley Community Foundation's CEO, Nicole Taylor, talks about the effects of the Supreme Court’s ruling on affirmative action at colleges, getting donors to give from their DAFs, and more. The community foundation’s donors gave out nearly $4.6 billion in 2023, a significant increase from the $2.6 billion granted the previous year. Efforts to make federal #grantmaking to #nonprofits more accessible are appreciated, but new the guidance is far from equitable. 🔍 Key Points: 👍 Language Inclusivity: English is removed as the sole language for notices of funding opportunities, applications, and reports 👍 Simplified Reporting: The reporting process is streamlined and audit threshold increased 😕 Indirect Cost Rate Concerns: The increase in the de minimis indirect cost rate from 10% to 15% is still not nearly enough to cover essential program expenses 👎 Exclusionary Matching Requirements: Continuing matching funds requirements disadvantage smaller nonprofits disproportionately led by women and people of color 👎 Technical Assistance Gap: The exclusion of nonprofits from technical assistance opportunities available to for-profit business remains a critical shortfall
