ACE Laboratories study reveals accelerated #6PPD migration in high silica-based tire tread compounds. At Tire Technology Expo 2024 in Hannover last week, our President Erick Sharp delivered the findings from our recent study on "Evaluation of Tire Wear Particle Leachability." This research focused on the leachability rates of 6PPD, zinc and hydrocarbons from wear particles of various tread formulations. A key highlight from Erick's presentation, in the conference session dedicated to understanding and mitigating tire road wear particulates, was the discovery that the high silica-based tire tread samples tested in the study migrate 6PPD into water at a much higher rate as those from traditional carbon-black tread compounds. This significant finding has led us to plan further testing, with the results to be shared in an upcoming white paper.
