MotoGP is set for a new era starting in 2027. A package of regulatory changes aims to redefine the landscape of the premier class of #motorcycle racing, with the goal of increasing #safety, rebalancing the competitive landscape, and embracing #sustainability. Among the most significant changes: • Removal of ride height devices and reduction of aerodynamic appendages: for easier-to-ride bikes and a lower environmental impact. • Reduction of engine displacement from 1000 to 850 cc: for less powerful engines, reduced fuel consumption, and an overall lower weight. • 100% non-fossil fuel: a concrete step towards a more sustainable future for motorsport. • Telemetry available to everyone: for greater transparency and enrichment of race storytelling. What can we expect? Aesthetically less extreme bikes, but still with high performance. A more balanced fight between European and Japanese manufacturers. Ferrari F40 The legend may return within the Icona series! Top Gear website indicated that a reliable source said that Ferrari will re-launch the legendary F40 within the Icona series, and it will be a car that carries many details of the F40, which was the last car made by Enzo Ferrari before his death. This car will follow the approach used in designing the SP1, SP2 and SP3 cars, as these icons were inspired by the 166 MM, 750 Monza and 250 Testarossa cars, in addition to racing cars from the sixties of the last century. Ferrari aims to launch these cars, which fall under the exclusive Icona series, to use many touches from important historical cars to restore the passion of the beautiful past for car lovers in general and Prancing Horse lovers in particular. Robots are coming to MotoGP™ circus, and I'm not talking about them taking over the riders' jobs. That will - probably and hopefully - never materialize. What I'm talking about, however, is an NTB-01 created by the Ducati Corse engineer Andrea Gorfer. What makes this tiny device so interesting (not only for us, mere LI users/moto racing enthusiasts, but most likely for other MotoGP/racing teams)? 🏍 The robot is equipped with around 15 sensors including inertial (accelerometers and gyroscopes) and optical (image and photoelectric sensors), inc. LiDAR. 🏍 NTB has also an autonomous driving system. It follows the technician who accompanies it on the track. 🏍 Its main task is to collect all the possible data regarding track dimension and surface and compares them with those of previous years. 🏍 Thanks to the onboard computing power, it processes data as they are collected. At the end of the tour, it can already provide the engineers with all the information collected 🏍 This is a great source of extremely valuable information for the team. Based on the accurate and up-to-date track/surface data, Ducati's race engineers can adjust bikes' settings and also better manage race strategy/tire management efforts 🏍 According to the source, it took around 1.5 years for Andrea to complete the whole project, from the idea to the deployment, which is a fantastic feat in itself! In recent years, Ducati has become a major force in MotoGP, winning multiple championships. By deploying an NTB-01, they are moving another step ahead of the competitors. I bet that in the next few years, we will see many more similar robots (as well as drones) deployed to support racing teams around the world. Racing has become a very data-driven sport. Sooner or later, every way to obtain additional information that may be used to outplay the competitors will be explored.
