Before #IAATransportation, the leading trade show for commercial vehicle and transportation, kicks off on 17th of September, Roger Dr. Busch, Corporate Executive Vice President Sales and Application Engineering at MAHLE, indicates what customers and visitors can experience at #MAHLEIAA. “Our path to future mobility is defined: We are convinced that technological diversity is crucial to foster rapid decarbonization of the global transport and commercial vehicle sector. The technical solutions for sustainable drives, that MAHLE can offer, are just as diverse as the requirements and areas of application of today's commercial vehicles. This is exactly what we will demonstrate at #MAHLEIAA“, Busch outlines. “With our broad range of components and systems for battery-electric drives, hydrogen engines, fuel cells, and renewable fuel applications, MAHLE has the right technologies to shape the sustainable transformation of the global transport sector. The visitors to our booth will experience our systematic approach to a fuel cell truck, involving MAHLE fuel cell peripherals, thermal management solutions, and a fully functional heavy-duty e-axle with two integrated SCT e-motors and liquid management modules. Additionally, we will showcase an evaporative cooling system for fuel cell trucks and—as a world premiere—our new bionic fan for electric commercial vehicles with owl-inspired design”, Busch concludes. #IAATransportation takes place from 17th to 22nd September in Hanover, Germany.

Future Technologies for Automotive Batteries: Opportunities and Challenges with Dr. Angelique Janse van Rensburg from BMW Group. Lithium-ion technology is set to be the workhorse of e-mobility for the next decade and thus demands further R&D to improve the usual performance indicators such as energy density, safety, and lifetime. In addition, more sustainable materials and those that allow for faster charging are of high interest to the automotive industry. Selected observations originating from advanced electrode-active materials are discussed in this presentation. https://lnkd.in/eu73FyrR Save €150 with Discount Code 2428-SPK. #AABCEurope

Last week’s The Battery Show Europe brought together battery manufacturers, suppliers and decision-makers focused on the latest developments in the advanced battery and automotive industries. With +15,000 attendees and +1,000 exhibitors, I had walked more than 10 km to connect with new and old acquaintances. Some of the key trends that I picked-up include: 🔋 Technology – Advancements in technology hold potential to further accelerate the transition to EV adoption. These include: battery chemistry (solid-state batteries/bio-based polymers), light-weight materials and aerodynamic improvements, electric motor efficiency and charging infrastructure (fast and wireless charging). 🔋 Chemical suppliers – In an attempt to diversify their product portfolio, chemical companies are eyeing the EV battery value chain to be the partner of choice for battery and electronic components. Companies like Henkel Adhesive Technologies, Dow, Evonik, DuPont Automotive and Saint-Gobain presented electronic adhesives, sealants, thermal and functional coatings to support challenges in battery safety, circularity and productivity. It remains to be seen which one will become the market leader in its segment. 🔋 Consumer Demand – Despite slower sales growth as a result of macroeconomic conditions, EV adoption continues to move from being policy-driven to be consumer demand-driven. In return, this is driving suppliers to further focus on more sustainable materials and battery recycling solutions. Supportive government policies and investments in charging infrastructure will be critical to accelerate EV adoption. 🔋AI – As an enabling technology, AI holds potential in battery material discovery, design + testing optimisation (thermal management, battery life, functional safety) and validation. It will allow to maximize efficiency/durability and reduce the need for frequent replacements. #batterytechnology #batteryindustry #evtechexpo #mobility #innovation George Kazantzis, Emanuel Schorr, Esther Quintanilla Lujan, Dr. Simon Engelke, Vanessa Moriel

We are charged up: Coming from the biggest battery show in Europe. ⚡️ Our COO, Sebastian Wolf, participated in a compelling panel discussion on "Opportunities and Challenges for European cell manufacturing.“ For those who missed the event, here's how #PowerCo is strategically positioned to navigate these challenging times: ⚡️ PowerCo’s product and production strategy is designed to be both robust and flexible. 🏭 Our standard factory model allows for step-by-step scaling in 20 GWh increments, providing flexibility in ramping up production as needed. 🔋 The unified cell design offers chemical flexibility, covering everything from NMC to LFP to solid-state batteries. 💡 The combination of standard factories and unified cells enables interconnectedness and maximum flexibility within our production network, allowing us to supply from any factory as needed. 🤝 Strong Support by Volkswagen Group as a stable owner and primary customer, we are committed to advancing our plans and starting production by the end of 2025. We're ready for the future and committed to driving forward our vision for sustainable and innovative cell manufacturing. #thebatteryshow #batterytechnology #innovation

"The #hydrogen train is picking up speed - and we've been on it for a long time." Our Head of Development Uwe Wolfarth recognised the potential of this technology early on. He has been driving the development of hydrogen-compatible #fasteningelements at ARNOLD UMFORMTECHNIK GmbH & Co. KG for eight years - and was ahead of many others in doing so. It's becoming clear that #fuel cell drives will play a significant role in #mobility in the future. BMW will put the first series-produced car on the road in 2028. A refuelling time of 3 minutes for a range of 650 km speaks for itself. The challenge lies in the industrialisation of the manufacturing processes and the associated reduction in manufacturing costs, as the technology is mature. What is still missing is the energy source #hydrogen at affordable prices and in sufficient quantities. Last week, we had a very encouraging event in Dörzbach with the hydrogen coordinator in the Stuttgart metropolitan region, District Administrator Norbert Heuser. Uwe Wolfarth reported on this there. #energytransition #transformation #greentech #innovation #mobility #NetZero #arnoldumformtechnik

Battery & EV – Is the party over? Today marks the end of the Battery Event Lyon 2024, after a week packed with press releases due to the Paris Motor Show which opened its doors on Monday. These two events have echoed a certain gravity in the statements of leaders at the forefront of the transformation towards clean mobility according to the criteria of the "EU Green Deal". Sentiments oscillate between the risk of inevitable industrial catastrophes and a reasonable optimism that contrasts with the thunderous announcements of recent years. Automobile, battery, and equipment manufacturers are all searching for the right balance to work with Chinese technology and know-how rather than against it in a confrontation that would be fatal. The components of the future Renault Twingo, the Stellantis and Leapmotor announcements illustrate this, as is the case in Germany. On the battery side, the shift towards new chemistries to stay in the battery race for entry-level vehicles is underway, but without the cursor being set, nor the recipes that will prove to be winners in the long term : LFP, LMFP, Na-Ion, NMX, and others to come in the coming decade... with the associated recycling issues. What can Rockwell Automation do in this context? It's simple: what we do for so many other industries that have also gone through high-risk revolutions may be less visible to the general public. It requires building a trusting relationship over time, providing industries with the technologies that make a difference, and creating bonds while maintaining impeccable ethics. This is our culture. "Make it Matters" is the slogan of our Automation Fair event in Anaheim, where we will have a special welcome for the automotive and battery industries.
