#Housing shortages still plague cities across the country, and it looks like #Industry40 might play a role in helping #construction companies solve it. But how do we make sure experts in construction are ready for that kind of innovation? #Training, as always, is key, and making sure workers are ready for those kinds of changes is good for everyone. We've got some commentary on all of that here:

Do you believe this robot and others like it will lead to greater housing affordability? Do you believe that innovations like this will discourage young people from entering the trades, or do you believe it will peak their interest and draw more of them into the trades? ----------------------------- "At a building site in Eastern Ontario, a developer is speeding up the construction of housing units with the help of a new, bulky team member: a robot known as Val 2.0. Over years of brainstorming and testing, Horizon Legacy Construction Automation Corp. has adapted a robotic arm – the type used on auto assembly lines – to erect concrete-like walls with speed and precision. Now, the robot is being used on its first project: 26 rental townhouse units in Gananoque, just east of Kingston." ..... "Construction could certainly use a jolt of innovation. Labour productivity in the sector – or output per hour worked – has plunged below levels seen in the 1990s, according to Statistics Canada. This lacklustre output is a major headwind for Canada, which is hoping to build millions of homes to alleviate an affordability crisis." https://lnkd.in/gN7-RSnd

🚧 𝐀 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? 🛠️ 💡 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨ut traffic chaos. That’s the promise of a movable bridge, an innovative solution designed to keep vehicles moving while ensuring the safety of workers beneath. Revolutionizing Road Construction ✨ "The goal of this bridge is to minimize traffic jams caused by construction sites," explains Marina Kempf, spokesperson for the Federal Roads Office. This ingenious solution maintains two lanes open in both directions, significantly reducing congestion and delays for commuters. Safety First: Protecting Workers 🚧 Why this matters: Construction workers often face high risks when working close to moving vehicles. With a movable bridge, the workspace is isolated, ensuring that workers are safe from accidents while vehicles flow seamlessly above. 📊 By the Numbers: Benefits of Movable Bridges 🚦 Traffic Flow: Reduces congestion by up to 60% during construction projects. 🛠️ Worker Safety: Eliminates the risk of vehicle collisions, protecting lives. 🌱 Environmental Impact: Reduces emissions from idling vehicles stuck in traffic. Why It’s a Game-Changer 🚀 Efficiency: Keeps traffic moving while construction continues uninterrupted. 🌍 Sustainability: Reduces environmental and economic costs associated with prolonged roadworks. 💡 Innovation in Action: Demonstrates how smart infrastructure can improve urban mobility. 💭 Looking Ahead to 2030 By 2030, smart, adaptable infrastructure like movable bridges will become the norm. Cities worldwide could integrate these solutions to ensure seamless traffic flow during roadworks, minimizing disruption while enhancing worker safety. 💬 Over to You: What’s your take on movable bridges? Could this innovation transform traffic management in your city? Share your thoughts below! 👇 🔗 Source of Inspiration: Leandro Pontes and the Federal Roads Office. ✨ Final Thought: Movable bridges aren’t just a fix for traffic—they’re a step toward smarter, safer, and more efficient urban infrastructure. Let’s rethink how we build for the future. Credits: 🌟 All write-up is done by me (P.S. Mahesh) after in-depth research. All rights for visuals belong to respective owners. 📚

Construction costs remain stubbornly high and while the Government’s efforts to speed up the consenting process are a good start, we need to think about how to boost productivity as well. This is one of my pet topics and I have an op-ed in The Post this morning with some ideas. Our next generation of builders is really engaged in this space, check out some of the quotes from young NZCB members in the article. https://lnkd.in/gRkpF8AQ
A 2016 report by World Economic Forum found that while overall business productivity in the US had increased by 153% since the 1960s, construction labour productivity had declined by 19%. That's partly because construction hasn't embraced technological change. NZCB Chief Executive Malcolm Fleming argues for greater innovation in the building industry in The Post this morning - from greater uptake of app-based reporting and ordering, to better waste management processes, to increased use of robotics. https://lnkd.in/gSxMrCNM

👷♀️ Amid all of the hype about virtual reality and artificial intelligence, you may be ignoring an important story in the real world: a 500k labor shortage in construction. It's a serious problem, and the industry is struggling to keep up. And demand for workers is only expected to rise... Robotics could help ease the pain, but it's not a whole solution. Many believe that positioning construction as a high-tech industry (which it historically has not been) could attract a new generation of workers coming from schools to construction sites. #realestate #construction
