What's it like to live with a QA professional?   Well, today I mark 10 years of living with one (Ruben Bracke) and my answer would be: wonderful but also "special" at times. 🙃   After our first few dates, I was expecting sweet messages or perhaps flowers. Instead he decided to send me test reports. Yes, you heard it right! He evaluated our dates through QA reports. "Performance 4/5 - Good communication, but the date had a slow response." 🤷♀️   Running the household together can be challenging for any couple. So my other half claimed he had the perfect solution to tackle all the tasks: "Let's use a KANBAN board." No more backlog (overdue ironing) for us! 😁   And last but not least, the most important thing you need to know about living with a QA professional is that you can never give enough details. Food for Thought (Food Vs Software) 🍝 Have you ever experienced a case of food poisoning? I have, and let me tell you, it wasn't a pleasant experience at all. I’m no expert on food production, nor am I a culinary champion, but you'll agree with me that quality assurance and quality control in food production and even in cooking are extremely important. If food scientists painstakingly go through quality assurance processes for the food we eat, why shouldn't we painstakingly go through QA processes for the software we use? The cautious attention-to-detail that food scientists give to ensure that the food we eat is safe and tasty can be likened to the same processes that QA engineers give to the development of software. Although the processes are very different, the intentions and expectations remain the same. The food scientist wants you to have a great eating experience—a fully hygienic yet tasty and nutritious delicacy that would leave you satisfied or wanting more. The software tester or #qaengineer wants you to have a great user experience, ensuring your use of the software is stress-free and enjoyable with little or no complaints. Imagine a world without software testers or software testing tools, the Tech world would be a mess! The existence of #QAs on product teams cannot and should not be downplayed. A product team shouldn’t be confident in what they have built until the product goes under the #qa microscope. The next time you want to cook or eat out, ensure that you’re eating food that is safe to consume.
