Proud Husband Moment! Today is the day. The proudest husband moment I can possibly experience. Today is the day that my truly better half officially launches the revamped Firefighter Nation, as the Managing Editor no-less. Is she going to throw rocks at me for posting this? Absolutely. Do I care? Well yes, I do in fact care. I am used to it at this point though, she’s not one to cast her own spotlight. Seeing that I out kicked my coverage with her, I will make sure to hold the light for a second. Between the broken text conversations on shift days, the verbal glimpses in what she’s dealing with, and yet she still finds a way to put words together in only a way that she can for the betterment of the fire service. So many times it makes me sit back and reflect on the life that I once lived, only to realize that she lives it better. Her perception of the fire service, her ability to adapt to the changes and most importantly her genuine compassion to “leave it better than she found it” is second to none. Given the rare chance that I make it out this post alive, I will leave you with this. Her heart is pure, her experiences are real, and if nothing else, you’re in for a ride to have the conversations that so many of us fear. It turns out, physical/mental health, financial security, and developing the ability to take care of “you” so that you can enjoy life after the “job” - isn’t so bad after all. While my words will never come close to yours, I am so incredibly proud to stand behind you in this fight. Today is YOUR day, own it! You always have tomorrow to swing a coupling at my head.
