🧿 Optimism, is the way. True optimism is more than wishful thinking; it’s a catalyst for change and a strategy for progress. Last week’s ESMT Berlin Open Lecture with Stefan B. Wintels showcased this beautifully, highlighting the ‘Dual Transformation of Economy & Society’. He delved into the complexities of our times, yet emerged with a reinforced sense of purpose and the realization that the right capital, coupled with global cooperation, can indeed shape a sustainable future for all. I’m reminded that the journey toward sustainability and technological advancement isn’t just about the challenges we face, but also the shared #HumanIngenuity that drives us forward. As a professional bridging business, art, and AI, and as someone who believes in the harmonious coexistence of humans and AI, this post resonated deeply with me. Let’s carry this optimism forward, not as naiveté, but as a powerful tool in our arsenal to build a balanced, positive, and sustainable world💙 #DecadeOfDecision #DualTransformation #SustainableFuture
“Optimism doesn't mean that you are naive, optimism means that you are looking for the best solution.” – Stefan B. Wintels, Chief Executive Officer, KfW Bankengruppe In last week's open lecture, we had the pleasure of hosting Stefan B. Wintels in the ESMT Open Lecture “Dual transformation of economy and society”. His lecture provided an in-depth exploration of the urgent and complex challenge of how to accelerate the transition to a sustainable society and simultaneously fortify Germany and Europe's industrial and technological stature. Three key levers were identified as crucial for achieving the goals of this decade: mobilizing private capital, enhancing the impact of actions, and strengthening global cooperation. Despite the complexities outlined in the lecture, Stefan B. Wintels maintained an inspiring sense of optimism, confidently looking forward to shaping this decisive decade for the benefit of our community, future generations, and the planet. 👏 Special thanks to Georg Garlichs, chief financial officer and managing director at ESMT Berlin, for his introductory remarks and to Olga Almqvist, senior manager of the Societal Impact Financing Initiative (SciFi), for conducting the event and for enriching the discussion with her questions on the topic. An additional thank you to Stefan B. Wintels for allowing his presentation to be made public in our channels. #decadeofdecision #decadeofinvestment

📢 EU-LIFE calls for an ambitious & realistic vision for #FP10. Find here #EULIFE's 10 guiding principles to make the next European #Research & #Innovation programme bold, resilient & able to face the current geopolitical, economic & social challenges: 1. Be ambitious: Aim for more impact through FP10. 2. Be realistic: Provide FP10 with a budget to meet the goals. 3. Rebalance public and private funding in FP10 and promote a solid EIC model. 4. Raise the investment in the European Research Council (ERC). 5. FP10 structure: Avoid creating additional pillars and fragmentation. 6. Develop strongly collaborative, excellent research by raising collaborative opportunities for discovery-driven research. 7. Invest in more bottom-up, less politically driven topic calls and ensure that the impact of generating knowledge is promoted when addressing global challenges. 8. Develop a coherent impact approach by reducing the size of consortia and monitoring the impact of initiatives in Pillar 2. 9. Bring researchers and their institutions back to the centre of European Programmes of Research and Innovation. 10. Excellence has no institutional borders: Improve capacity support of research institutions in an equitable, fair and diverse way. Find the full statement here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dZ2sduSz

Looking forward to #UKSG24 - this plenary session in particular; a robust and sustainable ecosystem for Open Access is so important not just from the perspective of enabling researchers to share their research-findings more openly, thereby ensuring transparency, verification and reproducibility. It is also fundamental to libraries and their mission to act for the public good, ensuring people are not prevented from accessing information and knowledge by its cost. It is crucial that we examine Open Access publishing models not just in terms of the financial costs and impact of author-facing charges, but also in terms of the long term sustainability and openness of the infrastructure that enables research to be disseminated and made discoverable.
Check out our day 2 plenary speakers at #UKSG2024 - Beth Montague-Hellen, Katie Fraser, Chris Banks, Caren Milloy, Michael Levine-Clark and Jason Price, PhD https://bit.ly/48EKfpS
