What a difference a decade makes! The article on the left published in 2014 poses the questions: what does HR need to do to get a seat at the table? The article on the right, published yesterday, declaring that the CHRO may be the most important executive in the C-suite. I see a similar potential for Life Enrichment and other non-clinical functions in senior living to elevate their roles, demonstrating their essential contributions to the organization and ensuring they have a voice in strategic decisions. Adopt these strategies from the CHRO: 1. Change your mindset: be a senior living professional that specializes in Life Enrichment, not the other way around. 2. Tie your efforts to business objectives / results: occupancy, length of stay, resident experience, fall prevention, etc. 3. Numbers are the language of business - embrace it! This begins by quantifying your work. 4. Know the business: Become a student of the senior living business. 5. Rise to the occasion: How might you respond to the staffing crisis, the shift to value based care, senior mental health concerns, challenging economics in LTC, etc? Take your seat at the table.
