We all dream of a better world, of a community where every citizen feels integrated and valued. This year's edition of the Civil Society Gala, in which I am honored to be part of the Social Impact Jury, urges us to reflect on the importance of "Communities for the Common Good", emphasizing the mobilization and involvement of citizens in projects that bring significant improvements in our lives and those around us. It is an opportunity to unite our efforts and make a difference in a world that often seems full of challenges and uncertainties. And it brings to mind spotmedia.ro, the project to which I have dedicated the past four years of my life and which has gained much more confidence as communities have been built around it: engaged readers, open partners, clients who care beyond metrics. It defends the right of each of us to accurate information, aware that this is a cornerstone of democracy and our progress as a society. And all it needs is for those involved, whether readers, companies, or agencies, to understand the crucial importance they have and to support it through concrete and responsible actions. In the end, we only need to understand that the power to change the world lies in our hands. Every gesture of involvement and support for initiatives that promote the common good is a precious stone in building a better future for all of us. September 8th is International Literacy Day (ILD). Since 1967, annual celebrations have taken place worldwide to remind policy-makers, practitioners, and the public of the critical importance of literacy in creating a more literate, just, peaceful, and sustainable society. We learned through our 2023 Insights, surveying entrepreneurs, that after becoming a Solar Sister entrepreneur, there was a 22% increase in the number of respondents’ girl children who attend school. 👉 Storytelling is a powerful tool. Whether it’s by sharing personal experiences, highlighting community struggles, or showcasing solutions over adversity, narratives have the capacity to evoke empathy, inspire action, and shape policy decisions. Moreover, we are confident that storytelling can drive momentum for policy reform and systemic change 👊 🔴 This is why ECOLISE collected a series of stories during its advocacy campaign to inspire EU policymakers and citizens alike to recognise citizen-led initiatives as laboratories for transformative social innovation. Voting may seem like the most obvious way for citizens to participate in democratic processes. But upholding the #truth is equally essential.   That's the role of Citizen Science and Science Communication. Both foster citizen engagement; contributing to a healthy and flourishing democracy.   As part of our #ScienceForDemocracy campaign, we've compiled a list of EU-funded projects that are working to build #CitizenScience and that are improving #SciComm across Europe 👐   Because citizens in Europe are increasingly called upon to make decisions that require a clear understanding of the world that surrounds us.
