When it comes to falls from heights on construction sites, the risk of serious injury or death increases significantly. According to some statistics, workers who are six feet or more above lower levels are at risk of such severe consequences if they fall. However, it’s essential to recognise that the actual distance at which a person may die from a fall can vary based on several factors, including the individual’s position, the surface they land on, and their overall health. Here are some additional relevant points: ✅Guard Rail Heights: The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) suggests that temporary guard rails should be a minimum of 950 mm and with a maximum 470mm vertical gap between the middle guard rail and the platform. Any protection below this height should be justified based on a risk assessment. Fixed guard rail should be at a height of 1100mm and must also withstand an equally distributed load and point load of a certain value in kN (UK’s Building Regulations Part K, BS13770, BS13374 & BS14122). ✅ High-Risk Work: Working at heights exceeding 2 metres is considered high-risk construction work and must be carefully managed by all the responsible parties. Remember that safety precautions, proper training, and adherence to safety protocols are crucial in preventing falls and minimising their impact. As per the link below you don’t have to fall greater than 2 meters to be killed after falling, this poor individual fell just 1.8 meters and was fatally injured. Construction sites, employers and duty holders must prioritise safety measures to protect workers and the public from such accidents. https://lnkd.in/eNHB3JHi For any fall protection advice or for a quotation please contact us here: https://lnkd.in/eTebfjUr Following the hierarchy of risk control, where possible you should install fixed guard rail around an open edge of a roof as personal protective equipment only controls the risk to an individual where as a guard rail would protect everyone from a fall. #fallprevention #riskmitigation #omega #sheqman
